In some respects I'd expect something similar in Guyana where a major would fund most production costs through debt but take a degree of equity return out of the "SPV" and hence manage their returns upwards if all went swimmingly.

I'll need to check the old CPRs but from memory 5-10% of Hammerhead is in the Orinduik licence. If they are producing 120-180k bopd that is 6-18k bopd at $30+ a barrel. That's $100m p.a. using 8k barrels a day and $35.

Now Eco is looking for a carry in the licence for 2 or 3 drills costing $120-150m and has $100m tax losses. Exxon has to be considering it but the current imbroglio around who gets Hess is perhaps delaying decision making.

Just Hammerhead alone I think is 50p a share here even with a healthy discount. 3 drills by a major on the licence in 2025 with a retained stake of 20-30% would be a fantastic outcome.

An alternative definition is how a sensible investor reacts to a share price drawing down from it's established range due to absence of news and the news when it comes not being as expected.

That increases the risk, demonstrated by the market reaction and lower SP. With increased risk comes a change in many investors appetite and buy/sell/hold strategy it is how an efficient market works when people aren't induced into myopia through emotional attachment.
