Re: Game 1 - Guess the date of the next major RNS:-2 Jul 2021 20:21
Good evening all
A nice finish to week BLUE for once!
Today's only hopeful was:-
----------
MarkA8178 - 02/07/21

Unlucky Mark, NO RNS today, better luck next time!
I gave an example of how to calculate CGT earlier on, for Amur, who seemed unsure of the facts!
I posted this simple off the cuff example to demonstrate using 10% and 20% taxation figures.
£212,500 - £35,000 = £177,000, so you pay TAX at 10% on the first £35,000! leaving you £177,000 to pay 20% tax on!
10% tax on £35,000 = £3500
20% tax on £177,000 = £35,400
Add the £3500 + £35,400 = £38,900 to pay in TAX
He then went on to say this happened back in the 2012-2013 tax year!
Back then the CGT tax classes were higher at 18% and 28% Ouch!
£212,500 - £35,000 = £177,000, so you pay TAX at 18% on the first £35,000! leaving you £177,000 to pay 28% tax on!
18% tax on £35,000 = £6300
28% tax on £177,000 = £49,560
Add the £6300 + £49,560 = £55,860 to pay in TAX ..... Ouch .....
And before anyone says he can offset this against any previous years losses!
"Capital Gains losses must be notified to HMRC within four years of the end of the tax year in which they were made"
The tax year for 2012-2013 was way over four years ago!!!!
Just having some fun with figures :-)
Have a lovely evening everyone, and glad JTMacs is back on board!
Cheers.
