NCYT and others, comparing status12 May 2020 07:32
I posted below in GDR last night, answering a question. Posted here, for comment/critique:
NCYT = Have I Got It test. On market, huge contracts etc. Done as a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test i.e. for presence of viral genetic material in the swab sample. Has to be done on non-proprietary kit, but in a lab. A few hours for turnaround, plus to-fro overheads. Strictly speaking, not an antigen test, as the antigen is technically the item that induces immune response i.e. the protein spikes. But we can fudge and call it an Antigen test.
GDR = Have I Got It test. Also a PCR test. JV with Cytiva who will manufacture, is just about completed proving how this will be done. CE mark expected later in May (end). No sales, no contracts, yet. NOTE that GDR are also developing a proprietary PCR test to run in their portable genedrive hardware, so that tests could be run in the field. Dec 2020 estimated, for that. NOTE that GDR also have lots of other strings in their bow which are very much on the market, with sales etc (as does NCYT of course, their C19 story is just a part of that company also).
AVCT = Have I Got It test. No sales, no contracts, yet. Is NOT a PCR test, it is a rapid point-of-care (POC) diagnoctic that relies on ‘Affirmer’ reagents that recognise viral proteins (so, technically is an antigen test). AVCT also have a JV with Cytiva who will manufacture gzillions of test strips. This is a saliva-based POC test, designed to deliver a Have I Got It result in minutes, pregnancy-test-style. Also collab with (and others esp Adeptrix who have their own test rigs, mainly in hospitals so not POC. Validation that this is all going to work, soon, and CE-Mark soon (May). Adeptrix validation may come before Cytiva. Note AVCT also a multi-line company, not just C19.
ORPH = Have I Had It test market, resell and service delivery of 3rd party test. OO are a CRO “Contract Research Organisation” and have whizzy test lab in sub hVIVO. They are now testing the Quotient “Have I Had It” antibody test, called MosaiQ. Uses Quotient’s proprietary in-lab testing kit which is nonetheless quite high volume. The plan appears to be for ORPH to offer lots of Have I Had it tests to the UK market. Note this is not a point-of-care test. So, for sale, and on the market. MosaiQ has been CE-marked from 1st May 2020.
ODX = Have I Had It, so in the Antibody race, with two solutions. 1) One of members of UK Rapid Test Consortium. Trying to create high standard kit, but not completed designing this yet, so “design freeze” not yet announced. ODX will be manufacturer. Will be a home testing/point of care test kit. 2) ALSO have material transfer agreement in place with Mologic (private company, government grant £1m) to manufacture Mologic’s ELISA test, which is a lateral flow test, which has to be done in lab. Note Mologic’s tech is now (11/5/20) also launched with BioSURE’s established POC (blood pin prick) test. Nothing to do with OD
