The one thing I found odd in the 'Methods of Intervention - Tumour inhibition' section of the patent, is where it states, "...wherein tumor growth is reduced by 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 7%, 8%, 9%, 10%, 12%, 14%, 16%, 18%, 20%, 22%, 24%, 26%, 28%, 30%, 32%, 34%, 36%, 38%, 40%, 42%, 44%, 46%, 48%, 50%, 52%, 54%, 56%, 58%, 60%, 62%, 64%, 66%, 68%, 70%, 72%, 74%, 76%, 78%, 80%, 82%, 84%, 86%, 88%, 90%, 92%, 94%, 96%, 98%, or 100% as measured by tumor volume."

I wonder why they miss out all the odd numbers after 10%? Why not just say, 'reduced by any measurable volume'? My only guess is it might be down to how tumor reduction is calculated but still seems strange.

Well spotted, gekgo. This is an added bonus with regard to any discussions CPF are having with suitable partners re 737 as the ProNai/Sierra contract noted any IP added by Sierra will be free to use by the CPF upon 737's return.

My rhetorical question is, IF there is any chance of nitrosamines being produced in the 737 manufacturing process then how much would a patient consume during treatment? Without knowing the absolute figures, a complete course of 737 might be akin to eating 5 bacon rolls, therefore perhaps considered a moot point.

I wasn't suggesting Garrett would be front and centre during negotiations, I simply wondered if her opinions would be valued by the negotiators. Anyway, I think we've covered it now.

As for nitrosamines, I'd certainly hope that both the developers and scientists running trials would be cognizant of how the body may metabolise a compound and if it breaks down to form anything nasty - we don't want a situation where the cure is worse than the disease. I'm sure such red flags would've been noted in the various studies undertaken on 737.

Morning CoL - no idea if Garrett has any financial link to 737 but it's fair to say she wouldn't want to see her hard work come to nothing. I've never been involved in business negotiations but would imagine at the multi-million/billion level the bean counters would have expert backup on hand, otherwise you could probably wrap things up in 10 minutes - we need X and they're only offering 70% of that so, no deal. Wow, seems easy. Lord Sugar would be impressed.

As for that little nugget you threw into your reply, "...features in 737's chemical structure that would raise concerns in any pharma company in the evolving regulatory climate", why would you even mention that without expanding on it? It might be for the best if you let us know so that we can alert the BoD. Afterall, we wouldn't want to be wasting the time of those pharmas queuing up to talk to us.

Hi Silver - alas most of that £500m would go to the CPF. No idea what our share would be, maybe £60m?

I wonder if M Garrett et al have any clout when it comes to deals or if it's left entirely to the bean counters. I can imagine she wouldn't be too happy to see 737 progressed then effectively shelved due to Sierra's commitments and so might be very vocal when it comes to ensuring the next owner can provide evidence they'll be able to fully fund it until an end is reached.

It would be good to know how close the 1802 translational studies are to completion. Hope we should get some update on that (and for the CTA) before the end of the month as the half-year report is due by 31st March.

Morning SOG - yes, depending on how close to completion the translational studies are for 1802, the BoD might be giving CRUK a nudge to say, help us with the tox studies and let's get 1802+737 into trials. Win-win.

With regard to 737 being in trials with others, it could simply mean researchers are actively using it in their studies rather than in recognised Phase 1/2/3 trials.

Hi Potnak - not sure I fall completely into the 'gatekeeper' category. I'd say I'm on the fence but my legs are dangling on the positive side. Plus I did contact the BoD in Feb with my concerns and posted the e-mail exchange here for all to see.
