Seems very much like the system used for years by bookies boardmen at the races. Their job which I know from a friend who was one relied on their instant maths and was basically to keep the odds on offer to return about £120 for every £100 paid out. Known as keeping your book "oversquare". Now down to algorithms. Remember also that the top shares in the US are a much fewer than our FTSE 100 and contain many "old" stocks with few modern Microsoft type. Comparisons to be wary of I would suggest.
