The governmentâs antivirals task force has made its biggest deals to date this morning for two promising new Covid treatments - Paxlovid and molnupiravir.
And all over-50s and the most vulnerable are being urged to sign up to a national study for molnupiravir as soon as they test positive for Covid-19.
Itâs all feeling a bit grim, SNG is the chance to cheer us up a bit. Although we hoped for the âMOARNSâ this side of New Year it wasnât really expected. However a cheeky SOTMOARNS ( son of the mother of all RNS ) still has potential re an in-vitro Omicron or a RM super yacht may still be on the cards to sweeten the sherry and moisten the turkey before we descend into Christmas carnage. Stay strong and positive and donât let Vlad and BJ get you down. GLA.
What we are seeing was predicted and modelled well in advance and we knew that the vaccines initial %âs in reduction of transmission rates was far below hyped. New variants were a certainty and omicron is sweeping through but still doesnât account for the huge numbers so even if itâs 33% today, we are still at 66.666% where we would have been. No doubt more restrictions will be rushed in but my point is that next winter will be similar. This is where we are and we need some new thinking. This is what was expected so why are we being panicked or more importantly, why are we underprepared? The scientists have been very clear about what is likely, the response is dismal as you can no longer use lack of insight as an excuse. I hope one of the solutions is here but by next year we need some intelligent people managing the situation.
I have just shared the links to the two Dr. John interviews and explained my whole investment strategy for life which includes why we canât afford new pants for the kids for Christmas. (And seriously about young children and how it could change). She knew about the gamble a while ago and that I was more informed about the drugs/Covid situation due to the many hours staring at my phone for the last six months. Iâve said that the In-laws can move in if another lock down happens, we all agree that SNG is the future. The World needs this.

Quite a useful summary of the UK situation this morning.
Skip, I couldnât agree more. You have summed up my thoughts exactly and Iâm sure those of many others. I think this week still has some potential for excitement as well. We are back to 7am RNS alarms although I feel far more relaxed about it than in June/July/ August....it just kept going :)
I think it will be more subtle than that, after all we have relied on detective work from some on here for a lot of the insights. ... A job advert for a crew of 30 including Michelin chef and helicopter pilot as well as Dr Castro tweeting about a 6 month world trip by super yacht before retracting and saying heâs in the mountains with family.
Monteacute, now that you and the Mrs havenât got to splash out for a bottle of Baileyâs for the No.10 Christmas party have you stayed in for the weekend, just in case next week might be significant for some reason or did you sell on the bell for a M&S Christmas?
Enjoying your science fest in the absence of sensible debate. Would a nasal spray (New Uni article) involve a complete new build or is there potential to use the existing ****tail of magic IFN b as a basis for tweaking?
Depends on the sunshine. Both batting can be frail, their bowling is superb in the conditions but two day-nighters or Hobart will give us a sniff....3-2...one way or the other...or 5-0... this is a game I know about but like here, so many factors. GLA ( not AUS)
