Good for the share price. Bad or at least embarrassing for management

This is not an "unwelcome" intervention it is a long awaited wake up call that the company is not being well run. Chances of that lesson being absorbed ? Well we can but hope.

There has always been this value in L&G. Just that this deal has highlighted it and the fact that the share price is too low.

Plenty of other FTSE companies like this. Much more of these individual corporate "surprises" and there might be a general FTSE rerating. I guess I'm half joking / half hoping but the signs are there that the market has finally learnt that tech and other new sectors aren't a straight line upwards

The irony, the irony. BP was cheered by the media back in the day for "embracing climate change" and going faster than the other majors in adopting energy transition and investing in renewables.

Just goes to show that in business you win if you make money. Full stop.

Fancy slogans, political soundbites, "vision" and the like last 5 minutes and then the world moves on. BP has fallen between two stools where it pleases no one - investors with poor returns and the liberals who after all the song and dance still see it as an oil and gas company - which largely it is.

Haven't followed Tullow but it looks like the share price is not far off falling to 1% of its all time high.

The terms of payment in the RNS are clear.

The deferred payments are on a non-contingent basis. It does say that

LGEN are only doing what any number of private equity groups do. Take on a distressed company, turn it around and sell it on. It's non core.

Haven't looked at in any depth but the terms look reasonable at first glance based on declared NAV and current profitability

The market has priced PHNX for a div cut for about 5 years now.

A few months ago when BUR had slid to around £11 I took a look as I thought this could be a bargain for brand value / takeover potential. I was so disappointed with the retail website - yes they have the expensive and also very iconic trenchcoats. But loads of miscellaneous clothing / accessories to go with it. By and large very underwhelmed by those products whilst still being priced at the luxury end : ££ (hundreds) for T shirts and baseball caps etc.

The layout of the site needs a lot of work as well in my view

It's a hard decision to make but it's probably is the right one.

When they say "suspension" I really hope that it is this is and not mothballing. They should be ready to resume operations at the drop of a hat. What we are probably witnessing right now is capitalism in action - drive your competitors out of the market and then when you have control, reduce production and hey presto prices go back up.

BHP need to be ready to respond asap if/when this happens not some arbitrary review date

You can say it's unlucky but the change in strategy has made things like this more likely

When it was Anglo Pacific it was a royalty company with no debt and good cash flow profiles from unfashionable commodities

Ecora is now a concern with a debt profile and a portfolio of more expensive to acquire, more fashionable commodities. I know that plenty of investors like this switch but it is riskier.

Guess which I preferred

A takeover bid would put the question to the government

If it is a strategic national asset wouldn't you look after or at least not be hostile to it ?

An event which encourages for once clear thinking without all this doublethink about energy policy would be no bad thing

Don't understand that. They need to be competitive on the price front first and foremost. A kettle is a kettle.

When I look for stuff online it's generally run of the mill, generic / unbranded electricals, tech products etc. I am not looking for premium brands and will compare ebay, Amazon etc with Argos. If Argos is the same price or better I would use them as the refund / return route is easier

Always have a degree of healthy scepticism for takeover approaches. Could be good could be bad but I want to see evidence of materially enhanced per share prospects otherwise the risk isn't justified.

I thought the game should be up when we saw reports of a possible reverse break fee should approval by the SA govt not be forthcoming. No no no don't get involved in stuff where you don't have control of the situation. Pleased that the deal is off. There will ALWAYS be other opportunities.

Of course not good news for current holders but this is beginning to look very interesting from a buying perspective.

I have never seen a major rights issue with such an accelerated timetable. I understand the confusion over entitlements because everything is happening is so fast there is a retrospective record date and all done and dusted by 12 June

The read across from Shell is not good. Also I can't really tell from the announcement whether they're persevering with their transition strategy or backing off. Uncertainty is never good - don't leave it for people to read tea leaves - be clear whether strategy is unchanged, we're reviewing or here's the new plan.

2% or so down on a takeover offer - I'll take that any day when you consider that this market can knock 10% off your share price just for mediocre results.

Reasonably hopeful that BHP won't overpay for Anglo.
