Is AI already a part of your recruitment process? If not it soon will be, said Stuart McBride, head of employment at nationwide law firm TLT. “Bigger companies have had some form of AI embedded into their recruitment process for a while, but it has typically been used for very administrative tasks. The likelihood though is that we will see more parts of the recruitment process taken over by AI - I don’t think people need to be worried at the moment, but this change is coming.”
The Department of Science, Innovation and Technology published its Responsible AI in Recruitment paper in March 2024 and recommended organisations seek greater assurance mechanisms in the procurement and deployment strategy for bringing any AI tools into their recruitment process.
AI and automation will also influence employers in decisions on whether to recruit new staff. This is being led by the financial strain put on businesses through the October budget, which saw an increase in employer National Insurance (NI) payments and national living wage, but new technologies mean that it is now possible for businesses to potentially cut hiring plans while improving efficiencies.
Kerr said: “Automation, artificial intelligence, and the evolving work environment will continue to reshape roles and skills requirements.
