Zurich - yes. AXA - probably got too much market share atm (and French owned) - however they found a way into the UK by buying a minnow (Provincial Insurance ) and now look at them. AVIVA - again prob not 'cos of market share - and this Gruop is a mega-merger of Norwich Union, Commercial Union and General Accident ( plus half a dozen others) so dont think Westminster would be too happy with another disappearing into same stable. But ---who Knows???? Still favour a Yankie. Now Chinese - that would make policy small print really obscure..........

Hi. Yep good article. Makes no mention of RSA's withdrawn from the USA market which was a running sore to them & had been for a few years after their disengagement. Ireland is annoying - but chump change. Losses? Well isnt that the nature of the beast? Isnt that why insurers build up reserves? (since 1845 - so there should be a few pennies in the coffers) There are a lot of USA/EU Insurance Groups looking at an entry vehicle to the UK- RSA fits the bill. Takeover is when rather that whether. AIG have run the ruler over RSA more that once. Time will tell....

RSA is the only sizeable composite independent UK insurance group left. All the others have some sort of foreign ownership/connection. There are a lot of companies around the world who would like an exposure to the UK markets. Your point about the bid premium is well made. But the existing shareholders have to vote on it, so the more disgruntled a shareholder is the more likely & cheaper the bid would need to be.

Never the less I still feel this recent plunge has been over done. Back to 1.20 is not a big ask. Usual trade range is 1.20 to 1.40 ish. 1.40 is a bit of an ask. However this is a take over target - sooner or later it will happen.

Well they are like buses - miss one & all u have to do is wait. I have been playing with HAWK. - with pleasing results. I think we have a new XTA in RRS made a few quick pennies there. glenstrata isnt very volatile - should have called it X-core - that may have helped.... My SGZ is stalling. but I live in hope. Similarly KMR - still in the black - but only just. How about you?

That is a distinct possibility. This drop is way over done. I have been playing this share for some years - it usually has a fairly predictable range of 15-20% - ok not spectacular returns - but do it 2 or 3 times a year? The Ireland problem will get sorted. Do bear in mind that to these guys the money involved is petty cash.

I cant see this going below a quid. Just had a small(ish) top up.

Share currently ex-div for interim - paid end Nov. Final, last year (ie 2013) was ex-div early april & paid late May. No reason to suppose it (if paid) will be much different in 2014. This share has a fairly predictable range of c£1.15 to c£1.35. I have been in & out a few times - nice 15% profit each time - am happy with that. Possible take over target as well. But as usual dyor.....

Think you are right. I have just bought a couple. Seems overdone when £100m is wiped off the value of the company when their rrs says estimated profits will fall by £10m. Interesting article in Mail - talks about dlar losing contracts to firms with access to cheaper banknote paper (dlar makes its own) says problem could be long term. Still think we could see a recoup or y'days loss - in part would do me. A 50p inc & I may bail out......
