The tripartite meeting in Baghdad concerning the re-export of oil from the Kurdistan Region has been postponed, with representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and oil companies not traveling to Baghdad.
A source within the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources informed Channel8, “On Sunday, a Kurdistan Region delegation, led by the Minister of Natural Resources and representatives from oil companies, met with the Iraqi Oil Ministry in Baghdad.”
The source added that the meeting did not produce any results and failed to reach an agreement on the issue of oil companies that are not yet prepared to resume oil exports.
According to the source, the KRG’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Iraqi Ministry of Oil are still in communication to address the concerns of oil companies.
“They are demanding a guarantee for the payment of financial entitlements to resume oil exports,” Myles Caggins, spokesperson for the Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan (APIKUR), told Channel8.
The spokesperson also noted that the companies are seeking the repayment of debts from the Kurdistan Regional Government, totaling $1 billion.
