On the face of it yes seems quite crazy to flood the market but look a bit further at shale the biggest oil producers..cutting spending and dividends by huge margins..and yes they were saved in 2015/16 by the banks with 485 b and now they are still in debt Over 200b and can’t carry on with this low op..many are shutting down busted and the situation is now very different as the banks have learned and will not give them more money while they are at this juncture and low op so down it goes ..this will be serving SA and Russia well..
Supplies will be down and once this effing virus goes away then oil demands will jump but not their to respond and OP will go up again above $50 but not enough for shale to produce and pay debts though some will survive as their costs is lower but most cannot do the same as they need a minimum of 48$ to just break even but no profits!
Shale companies prices are absolutely hammered.
Not all bad but time will tell..

They are changing all the time but even so G in comparison to other oilers is behaving better..
Conclusion It is not G specific imo

G share price is down less than most including BP...
Not G specific but oilers and market is crashing all shares and sectors

Dow futures by other directly related indicators pointing =7.5% down now..
Ftse futures pointing to -262 down currently but I think we will end the day far better than this..just imo

GKP just announced the suspension of all planned drilling operations in the region due to Coronavirus and pushed its 55k b/d targets to Q3 but is maintaining its current productivity and guidance with strong cash flow.
I guess G will follow suit ..

Think of when is the good time to buy shares ?

It’s no brainier
Rotation to stronger sectors or shares is an option too without geopolitical risks and uncertainties Or just wait Or may be half here and half there?

Then will 16/3 results in the current circumstances change any thing while all sectors and shares are trashed irrelevant of their solid balance sheets.
A lot of deep thinking and actions of choices on the table.
