Why have markets fallen so fast today?

Is it due today, Friday June 28th?

Watching 'Press Preview' on Sky News International, I see that the FT has a front page suggesting that there will be a glut of oil forthcoming due to the actions of the producers. I do not have access to the FT on-line, but for that to be anywhere near an accurate prediction, OPEC will not be doing its job, surely?

So NOW you are not arguing against buybacks in principle, but that they are NOT big enough for you!!

What would the price be without the buybacks? Lower, for certain.

The BOD are also shareholders due to share bonuses, so they are incentivised to do things to help shareholders.

As you state, a bigger dividend would not help the company. Glad that the BOD will only increase the dividend when it can afford it and is sustainable.

Buybacks mean that there are fewer shares in total. This benefits the remaining shareholders (us!) as we own a bigger percentage of the company.

The company would need to have a rights issue or a new issue of shares to raise new funds.

The shares being bought back are eventually cancelled.

Whoever is running the buybacks probably wants the share price to fall! Why. To be abke to buy more shares for cancellation cheaply!

The last thing that they want to do is to defend £5!

Had the UK bombed a diplomatic building abroad, retaliation would be expected, so it might then be left at that.

With news breaking that Iran has launched drones against Israel, will this cause the price of oil to go up further or is that priced in?

Apparently, these drones will take hours to get to their targets, so Israel will be ready.

Just checked that the BP share price is up hugely! Why is that? General market sentiment or the price of oil?

Looks to me like the USA and maybe the UK may be about to attack the Houthi on the soil of Yemen. Price of oil to increase?

How will the market react first thing in the morning? Down, since the markets do not like uncertainty? Up because the markets hope for a better leader? Or will the BP share price merely follow the direction of crude oil markets?
