Using your logic, somebody could simply buy up all the shares at the current market price, which would not be allowed without a formal bid,mince the shareholding reaches a certain percentage.

A bid would have to be for much higher than the current share price. A first bid would be for, perhaps, £1.00 more than the current share price and easily more. It is almost certain that the bid would have to be increased. It could become competitive if others start to circle BP. By the time it was sold off to a winning bid, the price offered could be several Pounds more than now and a 24% holding 'loss' could easily become an actual profit.

I hope that is 8cents and nor 0.08cents! You probably meant $0.08.

Should Iran find that it cannot extract and sell its crude oil, then it seems certain that it might block the Strait of Hormuz, so that other local oil producing nations cannot sell either. Crude oil in those circumstances could become anything between $100-$200 per barrel.
