The whole idea of containing interest rates to keep a tight hold on spending and inflation , whilst popular economic measure does not apply to the current circumstances. 100% of current inflationary pressures are caused by external factors beyond control. With so many products ,not just oil affected.. transport , oil based chemicals, Food production etc etc ..

A cut of the lending rate will NOT cause a mass rush for Champagne and Caviar. It might help the struggling housing mkt mind.
