Santander UK has delayed the release of its third-quarter results at the last minute as it scrambles to review last week’s landmark court judgment into car finance misselling that some analysts say could cost the lender £1.1bn.

The bank was scheduled to release its latest quarterly earnings report on Tuesday morning, alongside those of its Spanish parent company, Banco Santander. The British arm, however, announced on Monday evening that it was withholding its report while it reviewed Friday’s court of appeal ruling into commission payments on car loans.

I believe the FCA audit all Finance companies/Brokers with FCA Authorisation either every 6 months, or once a year, depending on what level of Authorisation they have, by way of them having to submit reports with specimens of relevant documentation, procedures, contracts etc for scrutiny, to make sure they are complying with the requirements of the CCA and CONC. Any found to be not complying will have their Authorisation withdrawn. They appear to have been asleep on watch, by not picking up on this discretionary commission arrangement practices years ago through these Audits.

True, but the net effect is still a large reduction in the number of shares in issue. The last TVR RNS issued on 30/09/2024 the number of shares in issue was 61,482,503,126. The total number of shares that have been bought back up to 28/10/2024 since the buybacks started in 2018 is 15,403,865,376. So if there had been no buybacks, there would be 76,886,368,502 shares in issue.

You then say
