Gazzleberry;
"The first wave affected everyone and everything. The second wave similarly. Why would a third, fourth or fifth wave not affect everyone? Especially if this one, of thirty known variants, is resistant to the vaccines."
The first and second waves affected everyone because there was no vaccine. Looking at the statistics for daily infections reported suggests to me that we have been in a third wave for the last 2 months, but because of the vaccination programme roll out, the number of deaths and people requiring hospitalisations has been greatly reduced. If the vaccine was not effective how else do you explain the greatly reduced number of daily deaths and hospitalisations? IF the new variant does show resistance to current vaccines, scientists should be able to quickly modify the vaccine(s) accordingly.
