Theosus "However like a lot of things these days there are a few more boxes any "responsible" business needs to tick. Lloyds is no exception and it runs its own charitable arm." Nothing wrong with donating to worthwhile charities in good times, but not at expense of share holders. So did the company contribute to the charities it supports during the pandemic when dividends to share holders were withheld?
Boris Johnson’s plan to restart China trade talks angers MPs12 Feb 2022 08:56
LONDON — Boris Johnson is pursuing closer economic ties with China by restarting trade talks that have been on ice for years. UK trade department tasked with organizing high-level ministerial talks with the Chinese government for the first time since 2018. The U.K.'s department for international trade has been tasked with organizing high-level ministerial talks with the Chinese government for the first time since 2018. The decision risks triggering a backlash from Tory MPs who are concerned about China's human rights record and the security implications of establishing closer ties with Beijing.
British government officials are in discussions about holding a meeting of the U.K.-China joint economic and trade committee (known as JETCO) this year. Such meetings between the two countries were held annually until 2018, when bilateral relations deteriorated over Beijing’s actions in Hong Kong. A government official said it was Johnson personally who was pushing for the talks to restart.
Plato "If Lloyds helps out the UK citizens then share price down but people in UK happier. if Lloyds looks after shareholders first and foremost then share price up" You really are on a different planet! Why do you think investors buy shares? To benefit/subsidise UK Citizens? Or to grow the value of their investment to get a better standard of living/quality of life for them and their families and get an income from their investment for retirement?
I think you should go cold turkey and book yourself into a rehab clinic ASAP for a month or two!
lti "Who would vote for the undemocratic Sir 'peoples vote' Starmer - complete contempt for the voters." The thing is, Boris Johnson and his inner circle have also showed complete contempt for the voters with their conduct with the lockdown parties!

Theosus It just gets a bit tedious when past contentious discussion subjects are brought back to the fore. I guess it is a sign of boredom in the face of nothing new of any Lloyds relevance for discussion that old arguments are brought back to the fore. Final results cannot come quick enough! Lets hope this will give ample positive news for debate!

Hope we are not going to get another day wasted on the pro's/cons of share consolidation which has been flogged to death previously on this board.........................just saying.
olr "You do know the Conservatives have a majority Government don't you?" Yes believe it or not, LOL. I just don't trust the chancellor full stop! Lots of company's making good money now and sitting on large cash piles ready for distribution to share holders; an easy target for the chancellor for a smash and grab to lower fiscal debt!
