You cannot make an analogy with Ukraine and Iraq. A despot dictator Putin has invaded Ukraine to take control of a sovereign independent country recognised by the UN despite International Condemnation from the International community, who are coming together agreeing political and economic sanctions unseen before.
The invasion of Iraq was not by a despot dictator, it was by an International Coalition from around the world for the purpose of deposing a despot dictator who was THOUGHT to be harbouring weapons of mass destruction, some of which he had used previously on his own people committing genocide on kurdish minorities.

Well that's the unknown. Putin did not just suddenly decide on a spur of the moment whim on 24th February to invade Ukraine, he has obviously been planning it for a long time. So has he prepared accordingly knowing sanctions would come knowing that he could ride them out and use oil and gas supplies to Europe as a bargaining point along the way? Time will tell.

So Putin's next step threaten to cut of oil and gas to Europe unless sanctions are lifted?

In the news that Germany will not endorse an embargo on Russian oil or gas. Cracks appearing already?

Just hope they buy the maximum allowed under buy back rules every day. Hope you right with interim dividend estimate 0.8p. May cannot come soon enough to get the final dividend 1.33p into account. Just hope Ukraine situation doe's not derail Lloyds recovery and future dividends.

Apologies if I am coming across as belligerent, but why should we give Mr Nunn and the board credit for starting a record buyback programme? It's our money to start with! That's there job, to return money to share holders! In the eyes of many investors, what they are doing now with the buyback is long overdue anyway the amount of time they have been sitting with all the cash in the bank.
