RE: Peer Comparison - AFC very undervalued!24 Feb 2021 10:23
Pandy2,
When an ii looks at a holdings report, they don't think "Oh, down 10%", they think "HOLY CRAP, the Fund has just lost £500m"
10% could mean a change of £10, £100, £1000, £10,000 or even £500m
Percent up or down is meaningless, the only people interested in percent are day traders.
Actual money value is what everyone looks at. Value of something is how you compare them, not by a percentage up or down, as that does not determine the value, only the change in value.
Actual monetary value (MCap) is how companies are compared. If company A's MCap does not change, but peer company B's MCap goes up 25%, it means that company B is being valued by the market as being worth more in relation to company A.
Think of all Peer companies being related like houses in the same road. House A has 5 beds and is valued more than house B which has 3 bedrooms. Then house B gets an extension and now has 5 beds too, so should be valued similarly to house A. Again it makes no difference what percentage house B goes up to match the price of house A, only the amount of money the owner has made by having an extension built.
