Dusty, It's hardly a private group when in a very public place (i.e. X/Twitter) I give an open invite to anyone to join and multiple times information from the group HAS been shared here. For clarity I created the group as this place is just a toxic wasteland and I wanted moderation. It's not a 'echo chamber' it's just moderated, which is a 100% improvement on here. The results are individual to the feedstock being tested. There's an ABB Inline Gas Tester as part of the FTU, so you come in as a customer and get a readout - so it all works, this is a testing unit, not a commercial unit.

If I was a potential customer and wanted to know what the official feedstock to hydrogen along with purity results were from the test unit are they readily available as far as anyone knows. - Answer, yes. There is an inline gas analyser supplied by ABB attached to the FTU to directly give clients the results.

tar is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons containing a wide range of aromatic substances including benzene, toluene and xylene (btx) as well as polyaromatic substances. many of these substances are carcinogenic. tars generated by gasifiers of waste feedstock with plastic content may be notably high. btx and tars can be present in between 1% and 10% of gas exiting the gasifier. tars cool to form a liquid or semisolid substance that fouls the system. tar has been one of the major issues leading to gasifier project failures although it can be managed and minimised by process design and generally the higher the temperature of gasification the less tar is an issue although this has to be balanced against **** formation at higher temperatures. perhaps one of the most high profile gasification failures in the uk was the air products project in tees valley. while little is officially known about the reasons for the decision by air products to write off this £1bn project, there appears to have been a number of factors including erosion of the gasifier walls and failure of the mechanical handling systems. but more importantly the scale up of the system from a 10ktpa demonstrator to a 350kt project was well ahead of a normal experience recommendation of a 10x scale up factor. other projects with less dramatic scale changes have still found this to be an issue. the powerhouse process operates at high temperatures and utilises a rotary kiln, rather than a static vessel, to continuously move the feedstock through the system. this, along with the rapid cooling of the syngas, prevents the formation of tars typically found in other gasification technologies. these features ensure minimal tar production, which is collected at a specific stage of the process, reducing fouling in other parts of the system and addressing one of the main challenges in gasification. because the system has been designed in a modular fashion there is little scale up to produce larger capacity systems. it is simply a case of adding more modules. this eliminates the other main issue in gasification. To clarify, the FTU was running for the whole of the CMD, it was running at rate (approx 100kg/hr), we utilised a funnel as it is easier to fill, as the feedstock is in 25kg bags, it was not seen being loaded as we have 3 hoppers in the feed system along with the screw volume, it was at temperature and the flare was running throughout the day.

The FTU was not built to produce syngas commercially (as stated on the day) it was however designed with the required connections for future changes. We don’t currently need to store Syngas nor make Hydrogen, this would have added significantly more cost to the build, and clients interest lays in the syngas components, the removal of hydrogen from the syngas utilises a proven off the shelf technology, so we do not need to prove it works.

W2T merged with PHE in 2020, due to Peel wanting to deal with one company at the time. The merger caused 40% more shares to be issued; these were all given to directors of W2T. They were under a restrictive covenant for 12 months, but since then, most of the directors sold. The White family still hold, be it a reduced percentage from 20 to 15%.

Castle, that's not quite the whole report - 2022 there was a £40m impairment due to W2T.

Stainless steel, which contains added chromium and nickel, has a melting point closer to 1,400°C to 1,530°C (2,550°F to 2,800°F). The exact melting point depends on the alloying elements present in the steel. Powerhouse's process operates at high temperatures, typically between 850°C and 1,150°C. Think we will be ok on that front.
