The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
The free float is only around 10 million shares. If small investors (like me) continue to pick up shares with a view to a long term hold then the number of available shares will diminish. To take the situation to the extreme what happens when there are none left?
I am I not correct in saying that the final consideration for the purchase of Ladbroke Coral is dependant on the outcome of the max wager on the FOBTs? As FOBTs form a small part of the GVC business a lower max stake could in fact prove beneficial on the whole.

The speculation regarding the change to rules re FOBTs should not effect our SP as the purchase price of LCL is structured to reflect the outcome of the regulation change. Once this is realised the SP should return to its previous level.
Hello Velo and all. Of course I bought back in. Too good to ignore. I bought about a third of my previous holding at around 580 just after the Brexit vote so can't complain. I agree that £10 is not beyond the realms of possibility, however I would welcome an indication from the company as to what the dividend situation will be in the future. It may be that lack of clarity here may be holding the sp back. All the best and good luck to all
I agree to a point. I did not realise that any army faction could be as rubbish at staging a coup and that it would be all over by this morning. There will be an effect on the currency, which will effect revenue, though the Turkish Lira had soared due to Brexit vote. Turkey was responsible for 30% of revenue before merger with Bwin so it is significant. The PM getting rid of half the judiciary today probably means that they wont be bothered looking at internet gaming activities. I did buy about 25% of my original holding back in to GVC after the vote.
I feel that the sp will be hit tomorrow. Maybe hit hard. Maybe very hard. May be time to buy back in over the coming days Good luck all
Actually I believe that GVC will be affected less than many companies as much of the income is obtained in currencies other than Sterling. GVC may well go down with the falling tide of market panic, but it will be other high yield FTSE250 companies that I will look to buy. I am a great fan of Mr Alexander and have profited greatly from my five year investment here. All I am doing is holding cash over the period of the referendum. If the vote is for remain I will no doubt buy some GVC in a more diversified portfolio. Good luck
Over the past seven days I have disposed of all my remaining shares (14,150 GVC). I believe the risk we face on 23rd June is too great. If I am wrong and we stay in the EU I will miss out on some immediate rises, but if my guess is correct and the Brexit happens, then I am holding cash to take advantage of the ensuing carnage. I wish everyone the best of luck.
I imagine Mr. Alexander and the original board members will be smiling at the sp. They all have substantial options that they may exercise once the sp has passed 600 and remained above that level for 90 days. I imagine they will do all they can to ensure this happens so there may be "good news" announcements. The dividend cannot be reinstated during calendar year 2016 due terms of the loan. I have just sold a further 7% of my holding in GVC at 612, purely to diversify my portfolio.
I sold 25% of my 20k shares @551. I have held these for over five years at average purchase price of 140. I will continue to sell on the rises. I am going to hold cash until next market dip, when I will purchase maybe Aviva, Vodaphone and possibly HSBC. Will NOT be buying the bubble known as PLUS500! I asked myself if I would buy GVC now, with P/E of 18, no divi until 2017, quite a large debt and the need to find £100m of synergies/savings. My answer was probably not. If they did hit 300 I would by back, but that won't happen!
Mathsman Here is a link to an all share list showing where GVC would stand if admitted. This is from a couple of weeks ago so GVC would rank at about 182 at todays price. http://www.stockchallenge.co.uk/ftse.php I believe that this move should have a positive impact on the sp.
One week until results and update published. The one factor I that could have a very positive effect would be an announcement of the restructuring of the $400m loan, the conditions of which preclude the payment of dividends until this 12.5% loan has been repaid. Beyond that it will take a few more quarters to see how this larger company performs. I have a great deal of faith in Mr. Alexander, and he has a lot more riding on this than us. Fingers and everything else crossed. Oh, and Mathsman, I think your use of the word "niche" with regards to Netplay is the issue. At present they are a bit too niche. Having said that I have been considering a punt using some of my gains from GVC. Punt being the operative word. Good luck all.
According to the event calendar on GVC site, investors section preliminary results to be announced w/c 25th April. This was updated 16th Feb.
BWIN spent a lot of time and money successfully developing Foxy Bingo and then sitting on it. Within a few weeks of the takeover GVC roll out Foxy Casino, at a cost of virtually nothing, rebranding an existing platform by putting a fox on it, and having immediate access to a huge existing client base. Just another example of Mr Alexander's business acumen, in my humble opinion.
The current sp is the same as it was one month ago, and 15% up from three months ago. Latest broker forecasts are all positive. Several factors are needed for the sp to move upwards. Firstly, a trading update, and this should come in March, however this will not reflect the true position and the trading update in June may be a catalyst. Secondly, an announcement of a reinstatement of dividends. I doubt this will happen by June, but possibly come in September. Third would be becoming a constituent part of the FTSE 250, which I believe will take place on 26th March. Another smaller factor would be an announcement of the performance of Betit which GVC has a large piece of and whose Thrills and Super Lenny are performing well. Five years in here and still playing the long game
Well I'm not counting my chickens yet, but waiting to see what happens in the main market tomorrow. Quietly confident though, having been in here quite large for five years....
I have stated before that I am not really keen on GVC taking over BPTY. Yesterday's Motley Fool article sums up my position on this. However, looking at BPTY sp of 116p it would appear that the market thinks that the GVC 121p offer may be the one to succeed, as otherwise BPTY sp would be around the 888 offer price of 104.9p. Just a thought.
