PRODUCTIVITY: Nothing to see here, except how productive the govt has been at creating debt.

COMPLIANCE: The cost of compliance at Macquarie has been growing at a compound growth rate of 14 per cent since 2017. In 2017, Macquarie spent $405 million on compliance. At the current growth rate it will be spending about $900 million on compliance by March next year, which is about the same amount it spent on technology investment in 2022. It's not alone.

WAGE GROWTH: By the middle of 2023 the real value of wages would only be at the level they were at the end of 2011

SUPPLY CHAIN: lagging 8-9 months in key componentry. ..supply chain disruptions set to give way to wage growth..unsure but both are out there...

SOCIAL NET COSTS: Out of control. The National Disability Insurance Scheme will do very little to rein in costs that are on track to blow out to $60 billion a year by the end of the decade; Aged Care still a national embarrassment.

Last month, the company announced it is moving forward on a US$7-billion new gold mine construction in ****stan (safe jurisdiction, no trouble here), alongside the ****stani government. Barrick is also considering building the Donlin gold mine in Alaska (interesting operational challenges), which it co-owns alongside Novagold Resources Inc. That project was last estimated to cost in excess of US$9-billion. Yet despite potentially having two giant projects on its books over the next few years, and billions of capital to outlay, Barrick is ready to pounce on an M&A target if the right deal comes along....CEY?

I have always thought the CEY assets in the ground were superb, unfortunately the 2 legged assets have been appalling.

I think we are seeing a turnaround, albeit longer than I would like. If the talk to shareholders is the same as the talk to staff, then this will permeate, and lead to improvement in behaviors and mine and exploration performance.
Not sure who posted the value of West African Assets as $50m, but seriously if you could by these for $50m go for it, mortgage the house. Try $250-350m..and good luck. Have a look at Perseus, 3 operating mines in 2 jurisdictions 1 French 1 anglophone, total resource of 4.9 m ozs. CEY resource at Doropo is 5.3 M ozs and growing ABC s 1.15m ozs and still growing...1 jurisdiction....etc etc

We have such an extreme level of misinformation in the world at our finger tips it is bewildering to know what to believe. I certainly do not believe anything from US media Giants and am very guarded against any news from government sources. Just recall the rubbish we were fed about the weapons of mass destruction, the continuing tragedy of regimes we had to change of which the changes produced significantly worse effects than the regime (Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and so on........Which leaves .......me to thank goodness I live at the bus stop back from the end of the world in the Colonial Outpost of Ozstralia. It used to be that the news took about 3 months to come from the good Ol mother land, and now I wish those days would return?

It does seem we are flying into a perfect storm, with Europe, China and the United States all entering downturns at the same time later this year. A recession in Europe is almost inevitable if the war in Ukraine escalates or even continues for that matter, and Germany, which has been fiercely resisting calls to pull the plug on Russian oil and gas, finally relents. I hate to think what will happen in the UK, and I am not at all sure that we won't see a civil war of sorts in the USA, as we are just about there now. In Oz we have the usual vacuous and vicious set of spruiking which passes (only just?) for a democratic election, as we pile on mountains of empty promises on burgeoning debt intermixed with social obligations on an aging crippled society. Such is life.

Great time for gold and a solid mining company. Best not to be like the rest of the world and try and walk forward and plot a future when everyone keeps looking (and acting) backwards.

Pentagon spending has totaled over $14 trillion since the start of the war in Afghanistan, with one-third to one-half of the total going to military contractors.

In 2011, the Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan estimated that waste, fraud and abuse had totaled between $31 billion and $60 billion.

As the U.S. reduces the size of its military footprint in Iraq and Afghanistan, exaggerated estimates of the military challenges posed by China have become the new rationale of choice in arguments for keeping the Pentagon budget at historically high levels. Military contractors will continue to profit from this inflated spending.

The Central Banks are well out of their league now, the tide has gone out and they don't look too good in their cossies. The Oz Central Bank has had inflation thrust into their mouths, and still battle to find the real interest rate to try and engineer a smooth trajectory( to wherever).
We have rampant House prices, out of control debt (and why not ) and the govt legalizes 5% down on a house purchase?

Doropo, which was acquired through the Ampella takeover, is ranked as the 10 largest Gold discovery (5.4 m ozs) in a recent report by SandP

The recent gold price bull run — in which the London Bullion Market Association gold price increased from an average of $1,284 per ounce in May 2019 to $1,922/oz in September 2020 before slightly decreasing — allowed gold exploration budgets to increase from $4.31 billion in 2019 to $6.20 billion in 2021.

Increased exploration resulted in 16 new discoveries, along with five over the last few years.

Analysis of the gold production pipeline shows future supply growth, if any, will be relatively minor over the next decade, with even the most optimistic view showing gold production declining by 2028. Although there are several reasons for this, a contributing factor is a lack of quality assets available for development. While nearly half the discoveries included in our analysis are not yet in production, only 33 have over 10 Moz of gold in reserves and resources
— enough for a mine to produce over 200,000 ounces per year of gold over a significant mine life. But many of these assets have a long road to production, including feasibility studies and permitting, making them unlikely to have a near- or medium-term impact on the pipeline.
The industry needs to invest more in all levels of the pipeline — from grassroots exploration to locate more quality discoveries to approving funds for construction — to prevent severe supply reductions within the coming years.
