RE: Drill diameters12 Jul 2024 12:18
Think from memory the Casing at Tai 3 in a 8.75" bore, was 7" down to 1430m, although the TD was 1448m, but the last 18 metres weren't wire logged due to hole condition issues. At the time they said they planned to deepen further into the fractured basement, but required smaller 6" drill bit and strings to do that, and these would be long lead items.
So it is reasonable to assume that Itumbula West 1 is cased in the same manner, and that the extended depth will be completed with a 6" bit, and then cased at 4.5 - 5" ?, prior to logging and EWT starting.
The Bit and strings should be on site by now, and ready to spin, once the Crew briefings and H&S are all in place.
Could be an after hours RNS today, or Monday/Tuesday next week, as Dai2belts mentioned previously in regards to the previous Drill contractor/Surprise Rig purchase announcement, the company can throw out some Curveballs when it comes to news and updates!
One thing is certain - we are a day closer to Spud!
UPDATE
Extracted from the 1st July RNS
"The Company-owned drilling rig is on site and is ready for third party services to commence rig-up ahead of spud. The Company has recently purchased its own set of well control equipment, 3½" drill string and two mobile cranes to complement the drilling rig. These purchases will also further enhance the Company's ability to generate revenues in the medium to longer term."
So it seems they have purchased 3.5" drill string, and would suggest that the existing final bore and casing were down to somewhere between 4" and 5", if they need to go that small to get to their new TD!
Also , a bit under the radar, they say they have purchased a set of Well control equipment, and 2 mobile cranes ( JCB Loadall type Forklift + Lorry mounted Hiab Hydraulic Crane ?)
If that is the case , they are amassing a nice little Rig Unit Portfolio, which can reduce Hire Costs and make the likely Rental Package route more attractive! Also makes full-time engineer/mechanic/fitter more justifiable.
We may just be the Groundbreakers for forward planning/fast tracking Projects, as far as New Entry Exploration Companies in isolated Africa are concerned! ARRIVE with your own KIT and get on with the JOB in HAND - Makes sense!
