This latest offering is a bit of a concern, I don't like how they published a press release rationalising it, or even any mention on their IR page. Bit sneaky to push through backdoor only.

Fundamentally when offerings are used to this extent there's a risk companies become fat and lazy. If they think they can rinse shareholders anytime arguably gives them less drive to be relentless on margins. That then can have a knock on insidious impact on underlying financials of the business itself.

Let's be honest, all miners are on fairly shaky grounds when it comes to being measured by the normal accounting metrics at the best of times, but this doesn't help. The challenge here is it being FTSE250 means an awful lot of index fund rebalancing is required in short order to reflect its hugely demised share price price. Same goes for when it's formally booted from in index in December. That negative feedback loop makes it a dangerous knife to catch.

This is the other reason to be a Mara ultra bull, it happening to be one of the most shorted stocks in US really adds to buying pressure when they're caught with their pants down on days like today.

Also good to see market cap within touching distance of Riot again, feels like this run is restoring a rightful equilibrium.

I was referring to the mechanics of dividends and share price impact as it applies universally in that part of my post you quoted, so it's not my opinion or me saying a dividend is better/worse than a buyback, more literally what happens.

A buy back as well as a dividend totalling the intended distribution could be decent compromise. Plenty of plcs go for a combination these days.

If they declare a dividend the share price would simply drop on ex-div day by the corresponding amount. I would be very surprised if they went special dividend route for the full amount. I'm sure board will be sounding out opinions of major shareholders and even if all funds are different in general they tend to lean towards buybacks.
