Rumours of a bidding war come from the tweet that kick-started the suspension. It mentioned interest from Russia, Asia and SA. The next day 2 massive buys and shares suspended, presumably because those buyers had info that gave them an unfair advantage in the market.

So to conclude from that that there is something big going on in the background is not a stretch that comes from nowhere as some have put it.

I really cannot imagine what the nay-sayers think will happen next to warrant their pessimism.

bobrad, you are being such an idiot. The longer the suspension the more obvious it is that they're not just confirming or denying the signing of engagement letters. Everything points at progress in negotiations toward a sale IMO.

Say your employment income was £45k, you might not want to get a huge divi and pay 37.5% but sell and pay 10% CGT.

It depends on your income.

If you're a basic rate taxpayer then divi tax 7.5%. If you're higher rate it goes up to 32.5%

The original poster didn't say they had an ISA. CGT is at 18 or 28% depending on your other income. A huge divi could push someone over the basic rate band meaning that they would pay 40/45% on earned and property income, plus 28% of CGT. Selling the shares and paying 18% CGT could be a good option for some ppl.

If in doubt, speak to an accountant.
