You are correct, shares are only ever worth what you sell them for.
It seems to me that, if you work as the CFO of a company, and therefore know far more about the finances of that company than anyone posting on any bulletin board, and you have the opportunity to be paid in cash or in shares (issued at a premium to the price that you could buy them for on the market) you would need to have a very strong belief that at sometime in the not too distant future you will be able to sell those shares at a higher price than you effectively paid for them.
Given the above, as I said before, this is s big thumbs up;-)
