Nice bump in the divi the $ fx rates are helping a tad. The broker is getting quicker at sorting out that divi too, it was taking 10 days or so.

How much discount would they offer and isnt this around the point of the trough anyway. Yes things are difficult and there are headwinds but there are still some levers left to pull including my divi being cut. I suppose it depends how much pressure is being applied to the investment grades and the commission involved will have no bearing.

Were as guided maybe slightly better, deal all but done and now time to manage the situation and scale it down to meet the ongoing poo. Nice to see the return up on a reduced size. Debt up to 14 percent gearing although they said they would be comfortable at up to 20 percent but want to maintain the investment grade. So I suppose they have 2 years to manage the company to fit the new average poo. I think they also mentioned some parts being profitable at $29. I suspect more sales and capex cuts unless the poo increases over the medium term. Looks like debt,divi and buybacks ahead. Would be nice for a company to do a buyback when its SP is on a low rather than on a high for a change.

next winter as SSE close 3 of 4 units at Fiddlers Ferry after taking a subsidy to stay open. Now they will pay £33m to close the loss making facilities. Lets hope next winter is warmer and brighter.

caitlin, safe is a relative term. With a divi cover level falling to only 1.2 I would not call it safe. Divi cover of x2 would be more comfortable level to be classed as safe. Hopefully they have their eye fully on the ball and feel quite confident running such low levels of cover. I like to have a rainy day fund even in the summer as you never know what is around the next corner. Still they intend to bring the level up to 1.5 and increase the payout. So one must assume the income or margin or both will have to increase.

on the turn for the better it seems. Hopefully the slimmer version will be better placed for the new normal trading.

I think it has more to do with money and asset flows and BREXIT. SL. earn commission so less assets means less earnings. Markets generally have been down so AUM will be down too.

As a divi hunter, the following in the IMS sounded ok:- confirms that SSE still expects to report an increase in the full-year dividend for 2015/16 that will at least be equal to RPI inflation; and · confirms that SSE is targeting an increase in the full-year dividend for 2016/17 of at least RPI inflation, with annual increases thereafter of at least RPI inflation also being targeted. Still lots of work to do, price reductions, debt management etc all to contend with. Lets hope they can improve all metrics along the way

...after the BG deal. Lots of investors with cash from the deal who might want to reinvest back in to get where they were and SP is lower compared to cash value when announced. Additionally there are those who jumped ship to get the arbitrage. The spike might be short lived and I suppose they would have to believe in the merits of the deal going forward.

Results beat expectations, keep increasing the divi and reducing the debt and that will keep me happy. Strong dollar should be good for £ payout.

Well some of the deal is hedged via the fact that its part paper not all cash. So its only the cash side that has "become more expensive" relative to the price of oil. In fact if the poo had risen you would be lauding the deal now. Most of us would probably be better of being out of shell over the last year, hindsight be the thing that it is but you roll the dice and play as best as you can at the time. Then again all things being equal the opportunity may not have arisen without the poo change. I suspect some of that over payment is for that opportunity to get the deal done. I can see any way to pull out unless the share holders here vote against it which I also think is unlikely. I suspect many more people will become long(er) term holders than they planned. Lets hope that things do work out in the longer term and that we can compound those divis and improve our lot. Im hoping to get a little back when I top up the fuel tank tonight. Maybe I should be putting the savings into the top up shell pot!

daytrader01, you seem to complain about the "game" and yet are willing to continue to play it. From your own admission, albeit announced after the fact, you seem to be winning. I suppose it part of your name, daytrader that you errr ..... day trade, hope you continue your winning ways despite the market makers trying to hold you back. Any clues as to the SP post the divis?

In fact it makes sense to borrow a barrel load of money and buy its own shares. I dont know what it bonds might cost but even at 5% it still saving double, well almost. This all assumes oil does actually pick up in the medium term. If it doesnt worrying about a cut in divi might be the least of our problems.

I prefer to take the cash for the pot and add when I think its a good time. I suppose that more difficult with small amounts but that's when some pound cost averaging on your brokers cheapy monthly option might be better. Hopefully over time those compounded reinvestments dont matter a jot even if they are reinvested a tad over the norm due to everyone doing the same at the same time. It also takes the "wrong decision" away. I could use the pot and add a munter instead of slightly overpaying for this ........ unless this is a munter too. Will it have a little rise as we get closer ..... you could always sell a few.
