Antibody testing24 Aug 2020 00:33
Let's clear this up once and for all.
Most of you will agree that antibody testing is a useless form of eradicating the spread of Covid19.
However, after listening to a medical professional on the news yesterday, it struck home why antibody testing is important.
This person stated that the greatest use for antibody testing is as follows:
- Take the test
- If you show that you have the antibodies that fight Covid19 then this should be entered on to your medical record. Doubly important if you are asymptomatic to Covid 19.
- If later down the line (say 3 or 4 months) your have problems with one of your internal organs (such as your lungs) and there is no reason why you should have problems with your lungs (eg no history of a lung condition or a lifestyle that could onset the lung condition) then your medical record will show that it is highly likely that you have this lung condition because you had Covid19 3 or 4 months earlier even though you were asymptomatic.
- Treatment can be administered more efficiently and be more appropriate to the cause of the condition. It also helps the medical world learn more about Covid and what it can do a person even though they were asymptomatic when one caught it.
Conclusion - the aim of the antibody test is for your medical record - in case you pick up an unexpected illness further down the line. If you have Covid19 and show the signs then you take an antigen test which shows that you have it (or not) thus an antibody test is not considered necessary because an antigen test will show that you have it. If you are asymptomatic then an antibody test is important for your medical record for any unexplained illness further down the line.
It makes sense to me now. I hope that it does to you even though I may be coming across as patronising. Some of you will already know what I've posted.
Just my thoughts.
