IMO this is a very interesting article on the role genes play in Covid (and other infectious diseases) - the outliers and the bellweathers - those people whose recovery against the odds seem to defy science and teach us more about Covid. The BOD serves the vast majority of shareholders here that want to see completed trials and data, not superfluous updates aimed at assuaging nervous, impatient or bored investors when no substantial updates are due. If you research historic RNS's you'll understand when you are likely to get an update from the BOD.

Synairgen mentioned here too, this is US focussed but a very interesting article on long-Covid with which we are becoming more and more associated with, it would seem. This is good.

"Taking a similar approach, Synairgen in Southampton, UK, cites improvements in critically ill patients as justification for adding long-COVID to its phase 3 trial with SNG001 (inhaled interferon beta). Phase 2 results with the drug “showed that improvement, recovery and hospital discharge were in favor of SNG001 versus placebo at day 28,” which suggests the drug “may be relevant to patients with COVID-19 who experience wide-ranging, long-term symptoms for at least a month or longer after,” according to a company spokesperson."

In this review "Inhalation Delivery for the Treatment and Prevention of COVID-19 Infection", SNG001 is mentioned (pgs 9 and 13):

Interferon-ß is a cytokine-induced by a viral infection, which primarily drives the

interferon-ß [54–56]. SNG001 is an inhalable formulation of recombinant interferon-ß

of interferon-ß in the lungs that results in an effective local antiviral response while
minimizing systemic exposure. SNG001 has been shown to improve lung antiviral defenses,
as evaluated in patients with and without respiratory viral infections, by sputum cell
antiviral biomarkers. Phase two trials of SNG001 have demonstrated an improved lung
function in asthma patients with respiratory viral infection compared to a placebo [57,58]."

I'm just surprised that anyone finds this news? Thankfully it's hard to rumble a share like this because data is 100% king. Rumours will only shake down a few, but IMO most PI's won't budge until they actually see trial results, they are too long invested and have seen this manipulation play out over and over again over many months...

Closetrader, I wasn't aware of the Episwitch technology (Covid severity test) that you mentioned - it's good to know such tests are entering the market now and what they are capable of. I've had a quick google and can't find anything on a UK rollout of this type of test - do you happen to know anymore on that , i.e. if this will only be available in the USA for the foreseeable future or if it might be available soon in the UK too? Asking as I know a few at risk people who could benefit.

SNG001
Synairgen (Southampton, United Kingdom) recently reported positive data from early studies of its SNG001 (inhaled nebulized interferon-beta-1a) for direct delivery to patients’ lungs.
Combined data from hospital and home cohorts totaling 221 patients in the Phase II SG016 trial (NCT04385095) showed 33 markedly or severely breathless patients treated with SNG001 were 3.41 times likelier to recover than placebo patients. Synairgen said the results reinforced confidence in its ongoing Phase III SG018 trial (NCT04732949) in hospitalized patients. The trial is expected to release data in the second half of 2021.
In May, SNG001 announced in vitro results in which SNG001 showed antiviral activity against two COVID-19 variants, B.1.1.7 (Alpha/United Kingdom) and B.1.351 (Beta/South Africa).
“Most people are going for early or very late treatment,” noted Richard Marsden, Synairgen’s CEO. “We’re kind of in the middle—with very strong effect sizes. We’re not interested in treating everybody in the home environment. What we want to do is find the breathless people at home, which is probably only about 10% of the non-hospitalized population.”

I'd rather call it calculated gross negligence by the Government in not protecting public health. I'm with the scientists, SAGE and the BMA (in particular) on this, it's a public health imperative not a vote on Love Island. Lets see how it plays out but I don't hold much hope that this isn't going to backfire spectacularly into more UK variants (plural) turning the whole government strategy on it's head and landing us in a right **** up come September when schools are due to re-open...
If the data in 2 months proves I'm wrong I'll happily retract every word, until then I'm following what little I know of the science.
