Don't overlook the safety data though - whatever is collected in this regard during trials will be needed and also invaluable if the drug is to treat future/other respiratory pathogens. Efficacy is one thing, safety data is another. The more data produced on this the better IMO so it's not just about how and when to use the drug but proving safety. And yes, I know we all beleive the drug to be safe, but for regulators data is king.

Concerning, although I'd like to see the original Oxford study data on this as I find the DM a poor source.

Tattyhead, I think it would be nice to see results against the Delta variant, but not essential IMO as the vast majority of patients trialling SNG001 at this point will be infected with the Delta variant, if the stats are anything to go by. However, we do not know the timeframes involved in that lab variant testing process and it should not be assumed that it is a fast and simple process. I have no doubt that it will be rigorous and quite possibly take more time that you would think. We don't know how long the last process took, just what the result was. Bear in mind that these tests are done a specialist lab in Europe (Holland if I remember correctly?) and I would guess that lab is in extremley high demand given worldwide pandemic pressures. Patience is key.

Breatheasy, that was amonth ago, if I'm not mistaken it was discussed a bit back then - seemed they top sliced a portion at at 170ish, as one would probably do at that price.

Agree Matterhorn that this is good, my point though was that a lot of the last 3 days have been filled with talk of the pandemic ending (in the UK), based on nothing more than dwindling + testing cases reported. I think it's premature to say we're heading into the clear just yet. Unless there is a sustained trend in numbers, it is too way early to call. The lack of quarantine at borders from next Monday risks establishing a breeding ground of new variants emerging. Will our vaccination programme stand up to that? No one knows yet. Personally I don't think we can say we've seen a sign of the end of the UK pandemic until a few weeks into September, when millions of schools children are back in close contact and holiday makers are home from far flung shores. Perhaps I'm being too cautious, but we've been down this road before with the "it's all over" brigade.

Hospital cases are rising even though case numbers (based on + tests) are decreasing because less people are testing. The proof of that lies in rising hospitalisations. I don't know anyone wth kids who is testing daily now that schools are out (prior to end of year a lot were mandated to do so). So many were put off having their 'freedom' and holidays curtailed by the Pingdemic that they simply stopped testing and reporting. It's not rocket science. If hospitalisations continue to rise as they are, falling case numbers are a 'blip' and not a trend. Even No 1 are cautious about calling this a pandemic remission. I'm nowhere near convinced this is over. Let's wait and see.

THe UK, as other developed nations, were already big users anticoagulants, they have been used widely for decades before Covid. THe link mentions nothing about Covid. They are tendering for supply of a drug that the NHS have used for years. Yes some may be due to increased usage in the pandemic, but I fail to see how this is indicative of anything other than Business As Usual within the NHS - remember drugs prescribed to high-risk stroke patients have been costing the NHS hundreds of millions each year, long before Covid.

Pfizer won't risk sabotaging it's valuable pipeline of other non-Covid drugs. The court of public opinion really does count regarding vaccines and enough currency has been sqaundered already. It would be an unmitigated PR disaster for them. Nothing more than sabre-rattling IMO. Being denied lifesaving drugs in a global pandemic - the public won't stand for it, not here, not in Europe, not in Russia, not in Asia, not in the USA. Big phrama needs to tread very carefully here. Personally I don't see it as being a problem. They will relent.

Any contract can be ‘voided’. To believe that any government would abide by such restrictions is to believe in the fairies IMO. I don’t see how this impacts Synairgen or SNG001?

Fully agree Mikep109. As stated previously, trials of this nature (outside of a global pandemic) can take anything from 1 - 4 years, and that's considered 'normal'.

The variant, known as B.1.621, was designated a variant under investigation on Wednesday.

There is no evidence to suggest it makes the vaccines less effective or causes more severe illness, PHE said.

Sixteen confirmed cases of B.1.621 have been identified across the country so far.

Most of the cases have been linked to overseas travel and there is currently no evidence of community transmission in the UK.

I guess you have to remember though that only a small number of (Hosp) admissions will possibly make the criteria and of those a smaller number again will agree to being part of a clinical trial. So many factors come into play, it is understandably an arduous business, but IMO we are through the thick of it.

Doc I take it to mean that transition to Activ-3 is more likely each passing day (not that it’s passed into A-3). I read somewhere that it costs circa $1 million per day to run the Activ trials, so every day we remain adds to the likelihood IMO.
