It is perfectly possible for a broker to claim on your behalf. As far as I know the process is like the additional tax on USA shares. With AJBell (my platform) and probably all if you fill in a W8BEN form the broker the claims back the extra tax on your behalf. It has to be them, not you, as they are the actual shareholders. It would be the same for SA and TGA, the form being sent to Computershare UK, but when I asked AJB why they would not do it the said they couldn't be bothered, paraphrased as "our system is not set up for that".

Do you have an actual share certificate in your name? If not : best of luck. I know of no (UK) platform provider that is bothered to claim on your behalf. Ask them, and if they do please let us all know.

Drop immediately by £1.78 on the night of 18th Apr (ex-div) and then sink again gradually (if higher) to £8.00. Even though coal price will be rising and Europe becomes disillusioned about "net zero" so maybe more willing to invest, I think there is grave concern about the viability of South Africa. It may stay that way until and if the 2024 general election changes the government.

When I saw the RNS I thought "not another bit of silly environmental greenery". Bee compliance is taking it too far.

@EdwardSeaton Fair enough if he estimates that earnings will be only 50% of the previous year, but I think that is far too cautious. Halfway between, say a 25% drops in earnings may be a more tenable black view, but even then a PER of 2.0 sound like a company worth owning.

I am also querying PER. Bangrak quotes 2.7, but the RNS says headline earnings per share of 130.85 Rand, which at the current rate of 22.38/£ and share price of £8.35 gives me a PER of 1.4
So PER is which, 2.7 or 1.4?

@ bangrak : can you clarify? "which is why I'm staying out for a while longer. 10:24" and "proved too compelling to sit out.13:23" seem contradictory. I am sitting in, for dividends, cash and income, but think the price will rise too.

Thanks penstock for the proactive link. it gives a really encouraging update of progress and prospects.
One thing stood out to me and that was the company is going to "reorganise the balance sheet"to "recapitalise former losses", so we need to wait and see what form this takes. It sounds like issuing new shares (diluting ours?) to replace debt, but the details we wait to see. It should be a good FY coming up.

But of course this is 17.6% (after all deductions for UK investors) on this single dividend alone. 44% net dividend if you look at dividend for the whole year 2022. Next year (ie this year) may not be such a return, but I fully expect it to be along the same lines. What an investment!

Galloping inflation in S.A. (definition of gallop = faster than UK) should theoretically be balanced by the fact that they sell into world markets and not domestic, so I do not see that as a reason to be pessimistic. If the shivering but superior-feeling greenies want to avoid this share, that suits me down to the ground.

I go along with Ichi. Like many others I had expectations fueled by promises that have not been met, and have seen a refusal of the company to post meaningful and mutually consistent figures. BEN has no regard whatsoever to its investors who are not part of the cabal. This is the disappointment.

As a LTI I am not "bashing BEN and rubbishing its prospects"; I do think it has good prospects. I agree that this is a promising situation with a potential to generate value/ money, but until the company pays regard to these causes of disappointment it is no surprise that the price has collapsed and is collapsing further.

The lowest price in the last 12 months was when people were waking up to the fact that this is a good financial investment and the price was steadily rising. The peak was just before it went ex dividend, but it has almost halved since then mainly because fuel prices have dropped, but also because apparently more people (like the UK government) believe it is morally wrong to keep warm.

Jumpy indeed, but it does seem odd that the daily charts are a a series of humpback whales. I suspect some people are making a lot of daily reciprocations.

Cuvio, thanks for the reassurance. I do expect a slow and stable recovery, and I am here for a long while yet.

I am waiting for news of an inverse head and shoulders, whatever it is called. Can anyone think of an anatomical equivalent?

K3VMC : RNS 20 Dec covered the period to end Sep. It is now April. Have we produced much since then? We have HAD production, but my sentence being present tense implies a currency. I fully expect we have been producing, but the level is completely unknown so I took issue with the tone of satisfaction in "this level of production". Banzai may be happy, but I am not. Although I do not expect monthly updates I do believe that the company needs to be more revealing in these unsettled times.

Erik : I have digested, and think it great that loans are being cleared (which does imply some production :) and the conversion prices are very fair all round. If they were planning the sale of the group then normalisation of the conversions certainly would precede that. However, I am not looking forward to a sale, with my single experience of such an event. I was a happy shareholder of Sirius Minerals with the price in the 30s (pence) and then stable in the 20s before the company decided to sell. When it became known, there was a rapid drop to 5p, and that was all we got for our faith, compulsory purchase, no shares in AAL (the buyer). There is no obligation to buy at current SP if the controlling parties can be "persuaded" otherwise.

We have no production. This is ahead of schedule? Perhaps there has been production detail that passed without my noticing. The conversion is either a non-issue, or it is a case of MBU taking advantage of the relationship to get twice as much money back from the debt than they would otherwise have done after the coming company sale to someone else. Who knows.

If we PIs are still here in the summer. I just don't like the sound of recruiting a broker, and then a corporate lawyer.
