VERY happy with RIO for future growth, but dividend per share was £1.3767 this month, £1.8535 in March, and going back another year, £2.2163 and £3.5232. Interpret that as an annual percentage at your peril.

I don't see how buybacks are of benefit to shareholders. Yes, we own an increased microscopic part of the company, but that does not mean bigger dividends as they are variable, not preset, and can be anything or nothing. The price may rise in theory, but it never seems that way. I would rather have a bigger dividend with the money.

Good news RNS is better than no news, in my view. Now I am happy to wait for the formal production figures and accounts.

No. ALL the mining sector is down by about the same amount (or worse). Would the unique GLEN results affect them?

"Fundamentals" can only be a historical snapshot. If you look at the RNS for half year results you will see that the next dividend will be $1.77, and this is considerably down on the previous year. RIO has a great policy of distributing a large part of its profits as dividends, and has done so consistently. Don't buy just for a specific dividend; buy for the long term if you want to be invested in this sector.
