Wids, I made apple and blackberry jam, got 4 jars stored away and some given away to friends. Lovely jubbly.

Not really Jayfax, all my sisters went straight into work on leaving school, mostly into Nursing College in Dundee and then into hospitals. We did it for cash in holidays as parents in those days did not supply an excess of pocket money. There was little in the way of unemployment benefits, very few people were unemployed in my village. We had wood boats coming coming into out little harbour regularly, sometimes two at a time with a third waiting out in the Tay. The village also had a jute mill and a jute factory ( different processes). Total population of Tayport was less than 3000 people, Man , woman and child.

H-hi, I live in an agricultural area, when I was at school we spent our summer holidays picking fruit for cash, we started with gooseberries then strawberries and finally onto raspberries, two weeks autumn holiday were always known as tattie 🥔 weeks, all older children and idle adults picked the local farmers crop. Money was a tidy sum and well received in those days. Now with taxation and health and safety rules and regulations those days are long gone.

No farmer ever complained about having unpicked crops rotting in fields. In those days we were grafters.
