RE: Cumbrian coal mine12 Mar 2021 10:26
The coal is high quality coal for making steel, the steel will be used for among other things making wind turbines, as they dont just grow by themselves.
If the coal mine is cancelled then the steel will just be ordered in from elsewhere probably china / india or wherever, where they have much higher standards of pollution prevention then we do - (bit of sarcasm here).
The locals want the mine, the coal is needed, the steel is needed whats the problem, if you dont think we need the steel then i suggest you bin your car, bike, bus, train, travel to holidays thereby reducing demand.
If the mine is cancelled then the steel will still be produced, but just elsewhere, which will leave all the eco warriors feeeling smug while the smog is in another country where they cannot see it and where it will do more climate damage.
I've been a paid up member (annual subscription fees) of the World Wildlife Fund for 40 years, I believe in a green planet, but people need to live, if it gets cancelled it will be worse not better for the enviroment.
If anyone has any information on a commercially available process of smelting steel (not annealing) using hydrogen, sun, or coffee and tyres feel free to post it.
Thinking of buying here by the way, just tracking the share price :-)
