Energy projects represent nearly half of the World Bank's portfolio in Cameroon
Business in Cameroon) - Energy projects represent 44% of the World Bank's portfolio in Cameroon, according to Abdoulaye Seck, the operations director of this structure for Cameroon. This statistic was revealed on March 24, 2021 in Yaoundé, the country's capital, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the joint portfolio review of this Bretton Woods institution in the country.
Indeed, the World Bank has financed the main energy infrastructure built in Cameroon over the past 20 years. These include the Lom Pangar dam, whose reservoir has a capacity of 6 billion m3 of water, or the Nachtigal power station, which will increase energy capacity by 30%. currently installed in the country. The delivery of this project, in which the World Bank holds assets through the International Finance Corporation (IFC), is scheduled for 2023.
In addition to these two works, the World Bank has injected funding under the Electricity Sector Reform and Transport Project, which, according to Abdoulaye Seck, "? directly benefits 7 million people ?" in Cameroon.
But, apart from the energy sector, the World Bank is also very active in Cameroon in the sectors of education, health and social protection, areas which globally represent 25% of the portfolio of this international financial institution in the country. The same is true of rural development (16% of the portfolio), or inclusion and good governance (14%).
