I'm going for a settlement on 12th September 2023, a year later. After losing the trial comprehensively and losing in Germany with an injunction against them, Samsung begin to count the cost and put in a bid for Nanoco at $1bn.

Reality check: They're selling out now because it has recently emerged that the company is in a perilous position, which was not known at the point they increased their holding.

Whether or not for the purpose of getting a settlement, it will help Samsung quantify a tangible cost of prolonging the legal process if an injunction is granted in the next year. As for the trial due next month, nothing materially changes.
As others have said this path was clearly outlined by Nanoco.
I don't expect much of a reaction in the share price for now, but we'll see.

Wow this certainly heats things up, alright a year for this avenue but the stakes are now really high for Samsung. It seems Nanoco are attempting to squeeze them into some form of submission, but we know this isn't Samsung's approach.
What happens next?

We've gone above 45p twice in the past 3 months and then dropped back. I think purely on a trading basis alone, that might be a good point to trim if it happens again. Then leave a modest sum for the trial, which I'm not convinced will be that exciting initially because damages are the real driver.

AimMaster2018 - I wish more people could deliver such an honest assessment as you. I worry many have a gambling addiction masquerading as 'investments.' People need to sit down and work out how much they've lost on all their investments, however uncomfortable that may feel. It's actually quite liberating to be honest with yourself and say I've lost tens of thousands of pounds because I made some bad decisions and also had some bad luck along the way, but I've got the power to make better, safer decisions with the money I have left.

What about the capital restructuring and the impact on shareholders? The board have stated significant dilution even from here, so your shares are virtually worthless even if they survive. I'm not sure what the investment case is.

well said giantsquid, the same happened with Debenhams and Mccolls. People will always keep kidding themselves though, what can we do? Take it from me, if you lose your money from here, it was your choice to remain in and gamble what you have left, so take some responsibility.

what happens if you short a company that suspends its shares? do you just lose your money? I've never been into shorting?

The business may survive in some form, the shares certainly won't. They may decide to keep some cinemas running if any are doing well. I know my local certainly isn't.
