TR64, apparently the cost to the UK Government is around £12 Billion in total, with at least £600 million ($822.30 million) for Global efforts to find a vaccine. Comparing the GDP of the US ($21.43 Trillion) and the UK (2.829 Trillion), I'd say the UK have been doing their bit. All I can think is that you must be an EU citizen TR64, it's the only explanation for your attitude toward the UK Government and AZN.

TR64, what is your point? My impression is that funding for the AZN vaccine is to develop facilities within the separate regions. I haven't researched it, but the investment by the EU would be used to develop the vaccine supply within the EU, and any US investment is to develop facilities in the US. at no profit for AZN. I find it incredible that Politicians and vested interests gang up on something that's effectively free, apart from building the supply infrastructure.
£3 for the AZN Vaccine, £15 for the Pfizer Vaccine, and £28 for the Moderna Vaccine. Funny how no one seems to criticize the expensive vaccines when they don't meet their rollout targets. What a FUBAR, when nationalist and vested interests undermine something that's non profit, so donated to the world, with the only costs around building required infrastructure.

I'm not an AZN shareholder, but I was just watching the Andrew Marr show, and watched the Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin maintain the EU line in defaming AZN over the vaccine debacle. The EU took an age negotiating the prices down of vaccines, including the AZN/Oxford vaccine, even though the AZN/Oxford vaccine is an at cost non profit vaccine. They keep banging on about AZN not meeting contracts, and treating AZN as if they're making huge profits out of this. Various prominent EU politicians have made statements to wreck confidence in the AZN/Oxford Vaccine promoting an anti vax agenda.
The EU statements never seem to mention the fact that the AZN/Oxford vaccine is non profit, whereas the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will reap big profits for the companies, and skirt around the fact that their vaccine rollouts are delayed too. My personal opinion is that the AZN/Oxford vaccine is cheap and non profit, so vested interests have tried to trash it during the phasing trials to promote the profit making vaccines. I'm also of the opinion that the EU is focusing unfairly on AZN as the company and vaccine is perceived as a British, so a legitimate target. What a nasty, juvenile, vested interest bunch of individuals have instigated and perpetuated this sorry state of affairs.

Should have said Landline Telephone numbers. The PSTN switch off will mean you'll lose your landline voice service whether you're fed by copper, or not. You'll be offered a broadband VOIP service, at a price, if you want home service. Personally I've already dispensed with my landline and use mobile anyway. The PSTN switch off will drive everyone to a bundled converged service imo.

I didn't take it as a criticism, I really thought BT would get to 160p by the end of Jan, and don't mind it being mentioned. I think I referenced to it myself in the last couple of days. Hopefully my second view will pan out, that it'll reach £2 by the end of this year.

Indeed I did. I really thought the vaccine news would propel UK stocks, and BT. It got around 147/8 in early Jan and then started dropping back. It doesn't matter, I've got no plans to sell, just going to buy more next Friday, or possibly a week on Monday.

All the Telecom companies have been evolving digital services for decades, and Digital transformation isn't anything new. What's new is the approaching PSTN switch off and the move to VOIP. The UK Telecom networks will finally move to a fully converged operating model, with landlines being consigned to history. Cloud services have been around since pre 2000, with much of the Dot Com hype around the move to centralised cloud business models. On the mobile side 5G is just an evolution from 4G, but will have many more cells using higher Frequencies, capable of providing more bandwidth. 5G will enable driverless cars, control of Drones from remote locations, and many more external IOT applications and services. BT have been involved in much of the research around Digital and Cloud services, they're not late to the party.

1) Hyped threat of a class action around landline only rental charges. Unwarranted and baseless, imo.
2) UBS talking the stock down. Again unwarranted and likely vested interest related, imo.
3) Publicity around CWU balloting staff about strike action. Probably less impactful than the market thinks, imo.
4) General Stock market negativity affecting many stocks, but more so BT.

Doesn't worry me, I'm going to top up BT next month.

Just watched an recorded CNBC interview of Interactive Brokers Chairman Peterffy, and I found it infuriating when he laughed near the end of the interview, stating that his own customers were involved in illegal trading. Personally I found his arguments weak, and frankly unbelievable. Why is it that the big players can trade hundreds of Billions between each other, yet retail investors are cut out of the game when the shoe's on the other foot. The whole thing stinks and I agree with your sentiment Velo, this is going to blow up big time. I've seen reports that this has triggered a senate hearing.

GameStop now over £500 a share pre market. Hedge funds are having to sell stock to cover losses from shorts. American Airlines have reported a cash burn of $30 Million a day, and are up over 65% pre market, another target to hammer the shorters. The battle appears to be on.

BT and Vodafone both down over 2%, for what reason? It is truly baffling how the market values Sectors, and individual stocks. Telecoms are among the least impacted by Covid, yet they get hammered for the flimsiest of reasons, My Vod dividends should land on the 5th, I know where I'll be topping up.

Must be great to have a ridiculously high share price. I see they raise cash & cash equivalents to $19.4 Billion in Q4 with a capital raise of $5 Billion at $632 a share and "free cash flow of $1.9B, partially offset by early debt repayments". The Cash increased from $6.268 Billion at the end of 2019, to $19.4 Billion at the end of 2020. Just goes to show what a sky high share price can do for a company's finances, even though the share price seems to bear no relation to the companies earnings, someone's having a laugh.
