"Bitcoin alone has grown an astonishing 5,000,000%."
Yep, a masterclass in the art of illusion. Create a blockchain, convince enough people it's worth something, keep telling them it will double, treble, quadruple, etc, ad infinitum, and watch the value go up and up. It's like a pyramid scheme on steroids, but eventually easy money will dry up, and people will want something that actually does something. It's only a matter of time until the house of cards collapses imo, and some very connected people are issuing warnings, but most of the Crypto enthusiasts only listen to what they want to hear.
There's talk that Quantum Computers will be powerful enough to crack Blockchain Encryption by 2026/7, and since none of the Crypto currencies currently traded are Quantum Safe, they'll become worthless overnight should such an event happen.
Crypto Currencies are at risk of regulatory action, either through Regulatory agencies banning them due to systemic risk, or regulating them to the point of them becoming pointless.
With a Crystal ball I would have happily invested in Bitcoin when it was less than $10, but I didn't see the value then as I don't now. My son who now works in I.T. actually mined a couple of Bitcoin, with his mates for fun, in the very early days and they just discarded them as they they didn't see any value.
The recent Bitcoin price history has the hallmark of a massively overinflated bubble; In 2015 it was priced at less than $400, currently $46,508.00 as I type, after peaking at over $61,000 in March. If I was currently sitting on big paper profits in BTC, I'd be unloading my Bitcoin as fast as I could. I watched a Guest on CNBC say that Bitcoin will go up Tenfold five years from now, $500,000 in 5 years; Has she been “drinking the Kool-Aid”? I wonder.
