RE: BT Pay offer CWU Rejected31 Mar 2022 10:57
I didn't work for BT, but I thought I'd look up the average salary and see who'd benefit from the across the board £1200 pay offer.
Customer Service
"The average BT salary ranges from approximately £16,179 per year for Senior Customer Service Representative to £33,754 per year for Retentions Advisor.
Salary information comes from 177 data points collected directly from employees, users, and past and present job advertisements on Indeed in the past 36 months.

"How much does a Engineer at BT make?
The typical BT Engineer salary is £35,802 per year. Engineer salaries at BT can range from £21,118 - £54,048 per year. This estimate is based upon 44 BT Engineer salary report(s) provided by employees or estimated based upon statistical methods. When factoring in bonuses and additional compensation, a Engineer at BT can expect to make an average total pay of £35,802 per year."
The £1200 offer works out at a pay increase of 4% for anyone on £30,000, so a higher percentage for anyone earning less than £30,000. The winners would be younger employees, and lower payed jobs in the company. Basically BT is asking the higher payed employee's to take a hit, to help out the lower payed. The union asking for a higher than inflation pay rise, of 10%, are trying to play to all employees, since they know that BT's pay offer is good for employees on less than £30,000, but 10% across the board is ridiculous imo. Many of the employees benefiting from the offer will be new starters, trainee's, etc, who will see future pay rises as they go up the grades, or get promotion's as they progress in their careers. For a BT employee on £20,000 a year, BT's pay offer works out at 6%; If that was me I'd take the 6% and avoid the hassle of going out on strike.
