RE: Woolworths mk2?7 Oct 2025 19:31
Over the past few years, UK businesses have been at a significant disadvantage due to a practice by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Presently, the UPU is subsidising China's postage to the UK, making it incredibly inexpensive for Chinese companies, such as Temu and AliExpress, to ship their goods internationally (source: Universal Postal Union documents). This creates a trade imbalance leaving UK businesses unable to compete on equal terms. We are calling on the UK government to intercede and stop this subsidy, which is unjustly tipping the scales in favour of Chinese e-commerce giants.
Moreover, we propose that Chinese companies like Temu and AliExpress should be required to partner with a UK-based company if they want to sell their products direct to consumers in the UK. This will ensure fair competition, protect consumers, and provide a boost for local businesses.
