I’ve never understood the criticism aimed at the TL government when it comes to O&G exploration. They’re literally betting the entire house on it much to the disquiet of many in their country. When have they ever said anything but “Yes”.

TIMOR GAP, E. P., the national oil company, expresses gratitude for the trust of the government and the people of Timor-Leste in its efforts to continue developing the petroleum sector, supporting economic development, and improving people's lives.
During TIMOR GAP's Appreciation Lunch ceremony to thank the performance of employees in 2023, the President of TIMOR GAP, Mr. Rui Maria Alves Soares, outlined the goals for 2024, which include developing the oil and gas industry in the South Coast, continuing projects executed by Timor Resources Company, and advancing the Greater Sunrise project.
His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco Monteiro, also praised the performance, willingness, determination, and collaboration of TIMOR GAP, E. P. and further emphasizing the importance of ongoing collaboration with institutions under the supervision of the MPRM, with dedication, mission-driven spirit, teamwork, and healthy communication to fulfill the responsibilities assigned by the state in the petroleum sector.
