......... I may as well look at my lawnmower (Qualcast).
I bought in here quite some time ago, as a "punt" and invested a relative small amount of my portfolio and as the value has shrunk to an even smaller amount I am leaving my shares to sit it out at present. A complete loss will not please me but I shall write it off as a loss if need be. Among the various options discussed on this board is the possibility of dividends in the future as OPE moves into profit. Now consider this scenario. HMRC is looking very closely at multinational businesses moving profits out of the UK by high interest rates, management charges, transfer pricing, etc. (Sound familiar with AL/OPE?) However, declared dividends at a high level will possibly escape scrutiny by HMRC if there are independent PI shareholders who would also be paid these high dividends. Hence this may be a low cost option for AL to get a good return on their investment without "taxation problems". Therefore it would be likely that AL would not wish to buy out all the independent shareholders, but could explain some of the purchasing activity that has taken place over the last 48 hours with a slimming down of shares held independently. Hence my reasoning as to why I am prepared to let my "punt" stay at present. I am prepared to pay my tax on good dividends ! GLA and this is just my personal view of events and I would not recommend anyone following my choice especially if you cannot afford the loss of all your investment.
I think you are correct in your observation. OPE has a large majority shareholder that lends money to OPE at favourable rates of interest to Ashok so why should they worry about OPE sp when they have the Ashok sp performing well being boosted by OPE payments to the parent co. There are no other lenders . I have recently had a reason to travel by bus around the country and I have been amazed at the number of recently registered Optare city buses (and the like) that are operating out of bus stations and Park & Ride depots. Why aren't we seeing anything by way of a RNS as to the sales performance - reason is they are not interested in OPE sp or PI's - just in the Ashok share price. Hope I'm wrong and things start to take off here - I wish! GLA.
What is all this shouting about marketing and the colour. In pre service trials, if it was Red in London, it would be just another bus. BUT being painted Blue it will stand out and attract attention with (hopefully) people clamouring to ride on it. And believe it or not, there is life outside of London where buses are coloured Green, White, Orange and Blue! As to publicity, do you expect us and other "Joe Soaps" to get marketing materials - no way as it would be a wast of resources. It is Local Authority decision makers and Bus O[perators who will have been targeted.
Thank you Turog.
It would be good to hear how URA are progressing towards extraction. Come on, please, BoD, keep us informed.
Anyone got any idea when the results (Final Accounts) are due for posting?
I too would like to know what this is and wait eagerly for BB to enlighten us. I remember some time ago there was mention of previous years losses carried forward for tax purposes means it will be sometime before any tax is paid on future profits, as they arise. That is a bit different from a "tax rebate". And remember losses can only be carried forward for a limited number of years. GLA
It does seem a bit one sided this downwards movement. Goes down a lot on news that Annuities will not now be forced onto pensioners - bit there was almost no rise when the Govt. announced mandatory pension schemes for employees unless they specifically opted out.
Lend a wad of money for financing, charge a high interest rate (compared to their interest rates) takes the "profit" and cash out of OPE (no tax to pay), parent company happy. What PI's, do I hear from AL? Hence I don't expect any favourable price movements for us mugs.
This was needed - but how long is "medium term"? 6 months, 12 months, 2 years?
This is drifting forever downwards - add to that the increase in GBP against the Euro and I'm feeling exceedingly depressed with this. What we need is an IMS demonstrating that all the licences and agreements are yielding an ongoing, increasing and quantified revenue stream with an estimate of when BE is expected. Whilst I support the environmental aspirations of this product, there are others working to bring alternative environmental friendly replacement materials to timber, possibly at lower costs. Please Mr Clegg...............
I for one am looking forward to the Jam. If you want quick returns don't invest in Oil exploration or Mining Resources. The time scales can be long and the risks are high. However....... if the results are good then the Jam can make you very rich. So have a long term punt with what you can afford to lose, then wait - you'll either lose it or end up rich. I am in here because I have relative confidence, backed by the NPE shares I had for the N.Sea that now belong to Cairn! The RNS for me confirms the previous expectations of timescale for operations and possible results. If you cannot afford to wait then I suggest you invest elsewhere. But, as always, DYOR and live with the results of your decisions.
A lot of press coverage recently about multi-nationals ensuring that transfer pricing, consultancy costs, administration charges, etc. is sufficient to transfer "profits" to parent/other company in a lower tax rate country. Do you think ...........? Such activities would not enhance the local company SP but would enhance the SP of the other company/s. Anybody seen evidence of anything like that happening here?
I have used quite a few Park & Rides during the last month between Stratford on Avon to Pontefract and many places between - all are running Optare variants, many newly registered. Sales must be good - so why no movement in SP?
I know the price of gold is going down, but surely the "extra" gold volumes that YAU are producing should cancel out the loss of sales value, so why is the SP going down? Is it because the increases were already built into the SP? I thought PI's in these nervous times didn't allow for "future" income and only invested when the income was proved - or am I wrong again?
No - results were known and already priced in. May have a small influence as relatively small investors top-up to get dividend before record date.
SP determined on very small trades - manipulation going on? For me a long term hold to reap the rewards that are not too far into the future, methinks. But what do I know? Everytime I comment the SP goes down! So GLA and DYOR.
......today. Firmly on my "to buy" list. Been disappointed with recent SP falls but I am confident for the future.
Funny how the markets react! I thought the news was good, considering all the financial woes there are around at present.
