The SA economy is in poor shape and desperately needs investment and taxes (enter mining companies). The 30% BE rule (aka take for nothing) is effectively in force and Bushveld fully complies, but we can never own more of Vametco than we do.

BBN .. I see SPA as reactive and rather being bounced. They clearly have been rabbits caught in headlights on the vanadium price rise despite being so-called world experts.

I just don't rate them at all and the analogy made a couple of weeks ago of moving from a Book-keeper to an Accountant rather summarises metaphorically where we need to head with a broker

It was a half conversation with a banker in Madeira that made me think 'I wonder'. The point he made was that within the EU, transfer is rather easier (at present), but one other example is Cyprus that has some tasty looking pension rules (so I was told), although their recent history of haircutting may be a factor to consider.. No point expending energy on it as not something we plan to do while oldies alive ... but I would like to live overseas at some point.

So don't anyone take it as correct ... just an avenue to explore

@raffym .. I rather sympathise as 80% or so of my holding is in my sipp and I am now well over the LTA threshold. In your case (10 years to go), you may get lucky as (unless jezza's marxist mob get in) I suspect the LTA limit will go up at some point beyond inflation.

The way I look at is is that at worse it is 45% net of what I have never had .. still a lot ... other possibilities are to move abroad and transfer the sipp (nice generous rules as I understand), cash and then come back ...(although I suspect the devil is in the detail, but her ladyship is not keen on moving overseas so not really an option)

Think on the positive side .. its a great place to be to have to pay that amount of tax .. already means you have enough for a nice pleasant retirment

@James .. no the $20/kg (not Tonne) cost will be the estimated direct mining operation. Does not include admin, depreciation and most definitely does not include Royalties (at 7%) or Tax at 28%.

I think if memory serves NickD presented some figures and from memory and all in cost of around $35/kg (maybe $40 top end) would be a good estimate) - lots of incidental costs we don't know about yet

Jabil have been 'lined up for 2 years if you follow the threads. OF is right that there are several operations expanding but from small bases .. nothing like the 10's of 1,000's of tonnes needed to even fill the steel requirements is likely to be available for a year or two at best.

A tie up to BMN is not going to happen - there is little in it for Bushveld and the capital drain to support RED and grow it would be a drag that is not needed (IMO), but some level of supply partnership would be good. I know I am down of RED, but that is because of the overpaid & underdelivering CEO it into the ground. It's a UK company and we want it to succeed

Interesting slide ... I was under the assumption (as it had been stated so many times) that charge the VFRB and the charge just stays (more or less indefinitely) .. but Michaels slide says a self discharge rate of 2.5% per day !!

If the pumps don't go... where does the discharge take place ?
