If you class 11 hotels across all of the Middle East as "plenty" then good luck with that .

I'm not going to say things about PI in Germany i don't believe in .

I think they entered Germany to demonstrate the company can be scaled internationally and attract a buyer (though they did back out of the Far East a few years ago after a few wasteful years of money down the drain) . There are some hotels in the Middle East which also contribute little to the bottom line .

Its a labour intense business so all those headwinds to deal with , living wage, NI etc

Its also a capital intense business in terms of growth (adding bedrooms) .

I still think the former CEO made a real error selling Costa

By who though, the only viable ones i see are Marriott or Accor .

The German demographic is very similar to the UK, lots of internal business travel midweek and tourism / sport concerts etc at weekends . The market is also dominated by small independants which whitbread think they can steam roller over . (not really happening at moment) . I think Germany will end in tears , we've seen it so many times UK companies taking on foreign territory and failing
