Spudding29 Jul 2019 12:52
As you say, technically, spudding is the commencement of drilling a new well when the drill bit breaks ground whether it is the sea bed or on dry land. The expression has been incorrectly adapted to this situation by the various posters on this bb simply for ease of understanding by the looks of it. i.e. getting the drill bit turning and making hole on the well deepening work.
Legally, it has been decided that the expression "start of drilling" means the same thing as spudding and is the point at which the drill bit breaks ground. The preparatory work to enable drilling to commence is not included in the definition of 'start of drilling'. drilling complete means that the bottom of the hole has been reached and the drill bit no longer used for further penetration. i.e is doesn't mean logging, casing, testing, swabbing, reaming or owt else. So, if the true definition is being referenced when we are told '"drilling will take approx. 35 days", it should mean exactly that.
Not very interesting was it lol. Sorry about that, just a bit bored.
Drill pipe diameter, probably 4 1/2" but cant be sure. the variables are almost infinite when you consider the choice of materials, wall thickness and tool joint sizes available.
