“This award proves that the global travelers appreciate low fares, friendly service and new, more environmentally friendly aircraft,” said Bjørn Kjos, Norwegian’s Chief Executive Officer.
Norwegian scored well in this year’s Skytrax awards in general. It was voted #2 among Best Low-Cost Airlines in Europe (behind only EasyJet) and #3 among World’s Best Low-Cost Airlines, behind only AirAsia and EasyJet (beating Southwest and arch rival Ryanair, among others.)
But another airline won its category for the fifth time as well. In fact, Norwegian Air Shuttle was named "World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline" for the fifth consecutive year.
Norwegian topped AirAsia X, Jetstar Airways, WestJet, Eurowings, Scoot, Air Canada rouge, LEVEL, Cebu Pacific and French Bee for best long-haul budget airline. Norwegian was reportedly recognized for “setting the standard in low-cost travel by providing outstanding service combined with a high-quality product while operating one of the youngest fleets in the industry.”
"This award is a fabulous recognition for all the Norwegian front-line staff who are responsible for serving customers, both in the airport and on-board environment,” said Edward Plaisted of Skytrax. “Norwegian has become a customer favorite with its long-haul low-cost concept and this award is a great customer recognition of their standard.”
