EUROPEAN UNION chief Ursula von der Leyen has performed a U-turn over a ban on Russian oil, saying that it would be wiser to continue imports.
In an interview broadcast on United States news channel MSNBC on Saturday, she said the EU would do more damage to Russia by continuing to buy Russian oil than via an embargo.
“What we also always have to do is find the right balance between not hurting our economy too much, because this is the strongest leverage we have against this Russian aggression, [President Vladimir] Putin’s aggression,” she said.
It was a stupid move in the first place. It has already created huge rift in Europe and we will have to wait and see if Russia will trade with those it has already stopped trading with.

What next...talks without a doubt. The Russians may stop at Donbas or they may try to make Ukraine landlocked. Many in Europe want peace talks to end this senseless war. The US must change asap as the world does not want the dollar to continue get weaker.
I have always said, Sanctions may work against many countries but not Russia. They have so much of what the world needs, from oil, to wheat , critical green metals , the lot etc. If Europe does not want to buy, the rest of the world won't stop doing it. Argentina and Saudi Arabia now asking to join BRICS. Lets hope this war end soon, esp for the people of Ukraine. GLA
