Powell did say the day isn't far off when they have to expand Fed's balance sheet - that's Fed-speak for QE. As a consequence of this and a re-iteration of we can cut till we need to, markets have turned from negative circa 1% to positive territory. Brent/WTI have moved off the lows as well. Not a bad outcome.

GKB - Donnie did drive the agenda (or maybe Bolton did) when he decided to pull out of the JCPOA and went ahead with sanctions on Iran. The strategy of forcing regime change through maximum pressure via sanctions hasn't worked and Iran's reacted the only way they could - attacks on ships/oil fields. And Donnie was suggesting to meet Rouhani, only to have him turn that down, not until sanctions are removed. It's not that there's no coherent strategy, there's NO strategy. If there was one then there should've been a clear response to a very serious escalation by Iran on Saturday.

I do agree that Iran will continue to escalate and who knows how the yanks would respond, but the oil market is again becoming a touch too complacent on the risk premium that needs to be put on.

With Gantz looking more likely to be the next prime minister and knowing that he's nowhere near as hawkish as Bibi, I doubt that Israel will take any action on Iran. And Saudis won't do anything without a US OK, which they won't get. Status Quo is what it is and Iran/proxies will continue doing what they're doing, given the sanctions that's imposed on them. Today's new sanctions by Donnie are a complete waste in every sense. If he thought that these sanctions on Iran will make them bend and come to the table, they just proved that's pure fantasy. And there's nothing he's willing to do against them, ahead of 2020.

Fed's just cut rates by 25 basis points, but the US markets are selling off a bit. That'll save Enquest circa 2.5 mill annually through interest payment reduction. ;-)

Donnie will very likely not do anything that may boost oil prices ahead of the 2020 elections. All this talk of being the greatest military is just that - talk. Iran called his bluff, and he backed off like they bet he would.

From an oil viewpoint, the 2020 elections is one reason, IMO, why there'll be a very positive movement on the China trade war front when the US and China meet in October. He needs a deal to ensure the economy stays on track, as the consumer can't cope with the large tariffs that'll come on in October and December. It'll be a face-saving deal and the US will not get all they want, but they'll get some meaningful concessions that Donnie can then claim victory. Oil can then at least get back on track without having to constantly worry about a recession.

GKB - Pompeo and Saudis can bellow and scream as much as they want, but the orange man doesn't want and will not allow any of Iran's oil infrastructure to be bombed Nor will he start a war. That's much as we can say. It's safe to say that the Iranians are quite safe. Numpty's words are what they are - just bluster. No wonder the B-team was kicked out recently...
