EURL ECVAM Recommendations
The aim of a EURL ECVAM Recommendation is to provide the views of the EU Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing (EURL ECVAM) on the scientific validity of alternative test methods, to advise on possible applications and implications, and to suggest follow-up activities to promote alternative methods and address knowledge gaps. During the development of its Recommendation, EURL ECVAM typically mandates the EURL ECVAM Scientific Advisory Committee (ESAC) to carry out an independent scientific peer review which is communicated as an ESAC Opinion and Working Group report. In addition, EURL ECVAM consults with other Commission services, EURL ECVAM’s advisory body for Preliminary Assessment of Regulatory Relevance (PARERE), the EURL ECVAM Stakeholder Forum (ESTAF) and with partner organisations of the International Collaboration on Alternative Test Methods (ICATM).

Animal-derived antibodies could be banned by a EU directive in the near future once affimers are proven in humans it looks like the sky is the limit for Avacta.

Antibodies are binding molecules (affinity reagents) that have a high specificity for their unique target (antigen) and are crucial tools for research, diagnostics, therapeutics and regulatory procedures. Animals are still used for the generation of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies as well as other types of affinity reagents despite the availability of technologies for their development and production that do not entail the use of animals. The EU Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes does not allow the use of animal-based methods when other methods not entailing the use of animals exist, which would allow obtaining the results sought (Articles 4 “Principle of replacement, reduction and refinement” and 13 “Choice of method”).

The generation of non-animal-derived antibodies and other affinity ligands offers a superior scientific resource compared to animal- derived polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies. Their selection can be controlled in vitro, they can be generated against “self-” molecules and against toxins, their sequences are known, they can be engineered and their recombinant nature provides a consistent reproducible resource. Commercial producers, government authorities, funding agencies and academics, worldwide, have the opportunity to place far greater emphasis on antibody generation and validation by using non-animal-derived antibodies and scale down production of antibodies by methods that rely on animal immunisation. Here also lies the opportunity to improve awareness, cost, training and education, accessibility, which will automatically drive up demand for all non-animal-derived affinity reagents.

1. Now that we are a legal design and manufacture company should we continue to outsource manufacture or build or buy our own supply capacity.
ABDX going cheap at the moment.

2.Is the supply issue waiting to put Avacta name on the packaging and not Mologic and now it’s full steam ahead on manufacture.

On 21 January 2021, Member States unanimously agreed on a Council Recommendation setting a common framework for the use of rapid antigen tests and the mutual recognition of COVID-19 test results across the EU2. The Council Recommendation called on Member States to agree on three concrete deliverables:
1. A common list of COVID-19 rapid antigen tests that are considered appropriate for use in the context of the situations described in the Council Recommendation, that are in line with countries’ testing strategies and that:
a. carry CE marking;
b. meet the minimum performance requirements of = 90% sensitivity and = 97%
specificity; and
c. have been validated by at least one Member State as being appropriate for their
use in the context of COVID-19, providing details on the methodology and results of such studies, such as the sample type used for validation, the setting in which the use of the test was assessed, and whether any difficulties occurred as regards the required sensitivity criteria or other performance elements.
2. A selection of rapid antigen tests of which Member States will mutually recognise the test results for public health measures.
3. A common standardised set of data to be included in COVID-19 test result certificates, further facilitating the mutual recognition of COVID-19 test results.

On 29 June 2021, the experts of the Technical Working Group agreed on (interim) definitions and criteria that should be considered for independent validation studies assessing the clinical performance of rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 diagnosis. There was a strong need to set these further criteria in addition to the ones presented in Council Recommendation 2021/24/01 for the accurate assessment of proposals put forward. As of 29 June, the following additional criteria have been taken into account by the Technical Working Group during their review process, and will stay in place until further notice:

Agreed (interim) definition of an independent validation study:
? A study that may involve collaborations with or that may involve funding by private entities, however, there is always a public body involved and the study is performed objectively and in the public interest.

My take because it’s CE marked he is telling Europe they have a test available able to detect Delta variant.

And beats 2 leading tests Europe are using at the moment.

By deliberately missing out UK and then adding developed in the UK, is based on UK technology and is manufactured in the UK he is putting two fingers up to UK Gov.

Come on Al you must have knowledge of which tests on the market detect Delta why don’t you RNS Avacta is leading LFT that detects delta.

AS has been giving hints for months Europe was his preferred route, expect a European manufacturing partner soon.

UK Gov will be in chaos soon letting this virus rip through the country.They will need a best in class LFT to get them away from this Chinese rubbish.

Now that affimers are proven in diagnostics and are a lot more sensitive and easy and cheap to mass produce, there will be a lot of board meetings in the big diagnostic companies discussing the IP.
Are these affimers a threat to their businesses or shall they make a move.

After AVA6000 trial starts and results start to leak of the potential in therapeutics.
The same scenario will play out with the Big Pharma companies.

I would love to see Avacta to go on to become a massive company in its own right.
But I think once revenue from Affidx and news from AVA6000 starts to come in, Avacta will be swallowed up
by the big boys.
But it will be a bidding war because they have licences with too many big companies.
