The technology has already been validated – clinical testing phases are all complete. The next phase of the pilot, involving Durham University, is aimed at developing understanding of where to best use this technology and how it could be operationalised. Durham University is contributing academic expertise and, as the pilot begins, on-the-ground experience to the development of these key resources.

Staff and students will receive training in how to take the test, process the test and read the result. The test involves applying a swab to the throat and nose. The sample is processed by the user, on-site, and the results are available in 20 to 30 minutes. The test should only be taken following training.

But after reading Q&A’s to me it looks like the phone App is the technology is what the government are waiting for, not out tests.
Q23: What are the requirements, if any, for Avacta to have suitable technology (a smartphone app of some sort) alongside the LFT that records the results of the tests? If so, does this impact the rollout plan for the test?

There is no formal requirement at this time for the LFD test to have a reader or an associated smartphone app for it to work; the intention is that the test will be read by eye. However, there is likely to be additional benefit to the test working in conjunction with a smartphone app so that the result can be read objectively, communicated for track and trace purposes and so that a “passport” can be provided for a few days for those with a negative result, collectively creating an audit trail linking the test result generated by a certain test to a specific individual at a specific point in time. Avacta is working with partners and aims to have a smartphone app available at the time of launch to provide this additional functionality.

I think to pass validation you would need the maximum 1000 tested plus other samples 900,800,500 etc....

This tweet says they have just had their 1000th participant.
If it’s took this long to register 1000 they must be inside the hospitals and not test centres where they can take more details
